As responsible for 6 years ago for Rugas de Sorrisos, a social support association, - currently with IPSS statutes, - dedicated to improving the living conditions of the elderly in the Trancoso and Guarda region, I have never met anyone like Mr. José.
Until recently, he had no documents, no family doctor, no pension, feeding rats that he described as his company and, until today, almost 83 years old, he lives in a room without water or light, where the rain comes in and aggravates him the flu every year, weakening your health.
But in addition to all the difficulties and old age, he is one of the most generous and genuine people I have had the privilege of meeting.
At Rugas de Sorrisos we work for the inclusion of older people, we help to combat their loneliness, improve their quality of life through active listening and affection and we do our best to delay the institutionalization of each of these people as much as possible, through personalized services adapted to the needs of each one.
But in the case of Mr. José, we will not achieve this without your help.
These days we are appealing to everyone's solidarity to gather seven thousand euros to allow us to build a room with a bathroom and a small storage room, where Mr. José can continue to live, surrounded by his things and in the environment that is most important to him. familiar.
Today I appeal to everyone's heart to help us, with greater or smaller contributions, to break Mr. José's loneliness by showing him that there is a community around him that is interested in him.

About the author
Rugas de Sorrisos - Social Support Association, was formalized in October 2017, promoting a pioneering service of proximity and support to the elderly and their caregivers in the Guarda region. It aims to combat the social isolation and loneliness of the elderly, which makes it possible to delay and in some cases avoid institutionalization.
Our project appears in a context of great needs at this level, which place the district of Guarda in 2nd place, nationally, with more elderly people alone and isolated. These data, from the Senior Censuses, have been worsening considerably in recent times, with more than 4,100 elderly people in vulnerable situations, which made us bet on expanding our responses.
Currently, the Association already has the statutes of a Private Institution of Social Solidarity and, in addition to being active in the municipality of Trancoso, it is expanding its range of action to Guarda.
For this purpose, we already have the support of the public initiative Portugal Social Innovation, which recognizes the relevance of our work and will finance, in the next 3 years, its expansion with a multidisciplinary team.
Through our services we intend to help the elderly to recover their autonomy, self-esteem, promoting social inclusion and coexistence between generations, recovering life stories, traditions and making the hours of each one more luminous and smiling.
Keeping company at home, accompanying institutions and services, and developing leisure activities, cognitive and sensory stimulation, health care, well-being and outings, we believe to be the perfect accomplice in the daily life of this age group, whom we offer attention and emotions, in a simple, creative and competent way, adapting to your needs and tastes.
