Help us to guarantee pre-school education for the children of Príncipe Island

The Principezinhos Project, through the stimulation of social and emotional skills, of children between 3 and 6 years old, will complement the preschool curriculum of Ilha do Príncipe.

The Principezinhos Project , through the stimulation of social and emotional skills , of children between 3 and 6 years old, will complement the preschool curriculum on the island of Príncipe, with the kindergarten teacher as a facilitator of discovery. With the main objective of empowering children with the necessary skills to achieve school success . And we will do it with this motto: learn by doing, learn in contact with nature . We will offer activities such as building mud shelters, creating works of art with natural elements, creating school gardens, and much more.

What will we do if we can achieve the ultimate goal of this campaign:

• To finance the pre-school education of 10 children on the island of Príncipe during a school year.

Implementation plan:

• Year 1 (2020/2021) in progress:

  • Practical classroom training for 3 teachers/assistants from the Santo António II Kindergarten in 2 classrooms with 48 4-year-olds;

  • Formal training for the Ilha Pre-School technical team (8 elements);

  • Formal training of 21 educators and assistants (mandatory).

• Year 2,3,4:
  • Practical classroom training in another kindergarten on the island;
  • Continuity of training to the technical team;
  • Training for educators and kindergarten assistants where the practical room is located.
• At the end of the 4 years of the project, we will have trained all the assistants and kindergarten teachers on the island of Príncipe, thus ensuring that the children's social and emotional skills are developed in all children on the island.

Project objectives: Combat school failure and increase opportunities for children on the island of Príncipe.

About the author

In 2010, driven by the desire to create value, a group of friends flew to Príncipe, in São Tomé and Príncipe. There they discovered a different reality, where happiness and smiles prevailed, but where there were no dreams of a different future, or of an alternative to the existing reality.

Books to read, teachers to teach, libraries to study, training in the most diverse areas. In Príncipe, there was and still is a lot to be done for education. Dream, Make and Happen wants to actively participate in this urgent change.

Educating is taking care of the future! This is how, in April 2012, Sonha, Faz e Acaba was born, an association of volunteering and social entrepreneurship, whose "dream" is to create conditions of equal opportunities for young people from the PALOP to succeed in school and become agents of change in their communities.

We have been present in the field for 7 years with high-impact activities such as the Xináa Fogáá Holiday Camp, which covers more than 100 children; the Entrepreneurship Contest that supports and finances local businesses; and also the rehabilitation of school infrastructures. Now it's time to take our dream further and implement the first long-term project of Sonha, Faz e Acaba, with Projeto Principezinhos.

It's about education that's talked about. Education is synonymous with freedom. Education is “the most powerful weapon one can use to change the world”, Nelson Mandela.

• TRAINING 12 EDUCATORS (Expenses for volunteers: accommodation, food, travel and health insurance) €7,300
