Our school choir urgently needs technical sound equipment. We want music to continue to be present throughout the school year, and without sound amplification equipment, we cannot make ourselves be heard !
The Rainha Santa Isabel Choral Group was founded in April 2018 at the school of the same name. From the beginning, it was directed by Nuno Pontes, a teacher of Musical Expression, with the musical support of the band São Rosas, Senhor, made up of teachers and parents of the school's students. It is an extracurricular initiative, entirely pro bono and voluntary. The Choral Group includes students from the second to the fourth year of school, bringing together, in the current school year, around forty children. The uniqueness of the project lies precisely in the association of the children's voices with a rock band of amplified electric instruments, which implies having microphones and a sound system to amplify the choir.
Over the past six and a half years, the Choir Group has not only been a regular presence at all events within the school, but has also participated in several activities outside the school. In 2023, it celebrated its fifth anniversary with a major concert that brought together around sixty members on stage. Since 2018, hundreds of students have passed through the Choir Group, many of whom have begun their musical training there.
The start of the 2024/2025 school year was accompanied by some changes: with the departure of two members of the Band who, until then, had very generously lent their amplification equipment, the musical group was left without the technical material necessary to make the voices of the participants heard and projected. What remains is the kids' talent – who continue to learn and sing songs that are part of the Portuguese-language songbook of all of us, from the 1970s to the present day: Zeca Afonso, José Mário Branco, António Variações, Xutos & Pontapés, Sérgio Godinho, Lena d'Água, Capitão Fausto, Vitorino, Chico Buarque, Sétima Legião, Miguel Araújo and António Zambujo, Carlos Paião, Ana Moura, José Cid, Deolinda, Diabo na Cruz, Raquel Tavares, etc. What is now missing are the sound conditions for the project to be able to produce work with the quality that we are used to, and who knows, perhaps even reach new and higher levels.
We need everyone's help to acquire the sound amplification equipment needed to give our little singers a voice!
