Sterilize and treat stray cats - are you with us in this cause?

We are volunteers who care for stray cats. Our project is at risk of having to suspend its activities due to a lack of financial resources to feed, capture, sterilize, and treat the many animals that urgently need help.

We hope this campaign will help us raise funds so we can continue our work with those who depend on us so much and need us so much: the stray cats. We want to be able to continue our animal support activities, guaranteeing the three main aspects of our work: Capture, Sterilization, and Treatment, not forgetting the all-important daily task of feeding.

We work in partnership with the Central Pet veterinary clinic in Telheiras, which has greatly supported us in the sterilization and treatment of hundreds of animals since the beginning of our project.

Given that our main objective is to continue providing stray cats with well-being and a better quality of life, we fear that we will soon have to suspend our "mission," as all expenses have been borne by us, without any subsidies or monetary donations. We have an outstanding debt of nearly €500.00 at the clinic we mentioned, and we have no idea when or how we will be able to settle it (we have attached 3 expense quotes already made at the clinic, which kindly trusts us and supports our cause, and they are awaiting payment without pressure).

This is the real situation we find ourselves in, and so we invite and appeal to all of you to "join us in this cause" by contributing a donation, however small, so that our/your cats do not lack their daily food and the essential care they deserve.

O grupo "Gatitos por Amor"

About the author

Driven by her love for animals and a lifelong, unconditional supporter of animal welfare, Paula Serrano created the "Gatitos por Amor" project about 10 years ago.

Working with a few volunteers, unfortunately not many, who are also supporters of animal welfare, we are responsible for 3 colonies with about 30 cats that we feed and care for daily. We assist the caretakers of other colonies, both with food and health care, also helping with sterilizations, in order to control reproduction and the increase of uncontrolled feline populations. Many of these caretakers are elderly and/or needy people who can do little more than provide them with daily food, and therefore they resort to our help, which translates into capturing and referring them for sterilization/castration and/or treatment.

There are still several municipalities in the country that have not implemented the TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return) program, nor even the minimum veterinary support for colony and stray cats. It is especially in these cases that "Gatitos por Amor" intervenes, not leaving behind the animals (cats and dogs) of underprivileged people who, despite having an owner and being at home, are involuntarily neglected, either due to ignorance or to economic difficulties of their caregivers.

Central Pet clinic has been our right-hand partner for the past 6 years, tirelessly assisting these animals and helping us at all times, whether with surgeries, deworming, vaccinations, treatments, or medication.

Throughout this year and up to today, we have already intervened with approximately 400 animals (80% cats and 20% dogs), including captures, surgeries, treatments, and food aid. This count does not include the daily intervention with the 30 kittens from our colonies.
