The Diaper Bank needs you!

The pandemic and the war in Ukraine have, of course, centralized the wave of solidarity in recent times. However, our families continue to greatly need our support. Our help cannot stop!

Since the beginning of 2022, Banco de Diapers has already supported 71 families, totaling 2436 diapers donated.

We regularly receive diaper requests and, due to the situation we all experience, we are not able to respond to everyone.

During the month of April, we had 36 more families to support, as we did not have size 5 in stock, which was transversal to all orders.

Banco de Diapers is a unique project in Portugal, essentially designed to allow access to incontinence absorbent materials to people/families with economic need.

It consists of a logic of social emergency supplementation, which helps to balance the family budget, protects the health of those who use diapers daily, without generating dependence on support, since we donate diapers equivalent to the estimated average use of one week.

Diapers are donated to families, through social and health institutions that accompany them, with the creation of partnerships.

We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation in relation to institutions, professionals and beneficiaries.

We strive to respond to referrals within one month, in order to reach the greatest number of families with the shortest possible waiting time.

About the author

Passo Positivo, based in Matosinhos, was born in 2010 through the will of a group of friends who voluntarily built and developed it.

Our mission is to guarantee the safety and well-being of vulnerable people or people working in crisis situations, filling the gaps in support in complementarity with other institutions, promoting the increase of their skills and creating an impact on different generations for the exercise of citizenship. global.

In this sense, we have four major projects:

• The Diaper Bank where we collect and donate diapers, as well as training courses on the proper use of absorbent material for incontinence.
• Neighbors , for the prevention of domestic accidents among the population with functional disability.
• Prevenir is the Best Remedy, whose objective is to increase the access of the senior population to wellness strategies.
• Humanitus educates professionals and/or volunteers for humanitarian action, and raises awareness of active citizenship in school and work environments.

In addition to these main projects, we developed an entire internal Volunteering Program and we belong to the Social Network of Matosinhos and Valongo.

Currently, our team consists of two full-time people: Project Coordination and Marketing, and 5 part-time people, who are part of our latest project “Prevenir is the Best Remedy”.

We privilege professional volunteering, so our governing bodies are made up of volunteers.

Budget and due dates

We have a waiting list of 36 families:

- 25 diapers x €0.25 = 6.25 x 2 (two donations per family) = €12.5 = cost of donation per family

- €12.5 x 36 = €450

We ask for €500 in order to cover the fees charged by the PPL.

Thus, the campaign should end on May 29, for the following week to make the acquisition, packaging and distribution of donations.

Bearing in mind that the average value of a diaper is around €0.25, the budget includes supplementary support for the 36 families who were unable to respond due to the lack of T5 stock.
