Rui is 47 years old. He’s a nurse and he has 2 children: Maria, 10 years old, and Gonçalo, 5. He was on his way home, after a 12-hour shift, and he felt bad at the street. Fortunately, he was immediately helped by António, na operational assistant in street cleaning, who had recently been trained in Basic Life Support.
António’s quick reaction when performing the resuscitation maneuvers correctly until specialized help arrived allowed Rui to recover from this episode without any consequences.
What if….
Hadn’t António come across Rui?
Hadn’t António been trained in BLS?
It probably would have taken several minutes until he had specialized help. Those minutes would have made all the difference, and probably it would have been too late. Maybe Rui could have health problems for the rest of his life. Perhaps he had not survived. Fortunately we will never know!
What happened to Rui could have happened to any of us. Our project, and for which we need you help, is to to make Basic Life Support training reach the essencial elements of all areas of our comunity. So that nobody loses their life because someone wasn’t prepared to do BLS!
In order to fullfil our mission, we need manequins and other materials needed to carry out the training. We count on everybody’s contribution so that we can help as many people as possible!
