Campo's Expedition | A Regular Camping Experience

It’s not a complex dream, much less an impossible one. We’re just a group of explorers scouts from Corpo Nacional de Escutas who want to have a... regular camping experience! Can you give us a hand?

Although many people think that a scout's main activity is helping elderly people cross the road, it is at camp that we are truly happy and where we can put into practice much of what we learn throughout our year.

As we prepare for the big week-long regional camp that will take place in August, we realize the inevitable: our camping equipment is not in the best condition , not because it is mistreated, but because it is very old.

We need help raising funds to finance the purchase of new equipment. We need to replace tents, kitchen equipment and collective lighting equipment .

By purchasing this equipment, our explorers will be more comfortable and confident in the field. It will be easier to camp without having to face logistical constraints or, in the case of equipment that urgently needs replacing, without having to use up the funds we have to carry out our activities.

This campaign will allow the simplest thing we can ask for: to have "normal" camps (but which will remain well-kept in the memory of each of them).

About the author

The Expedition of the 1281 Field Group, from the Porto Region , of the National Corps , is a group of explorers , scouts aged 10 to 14 .

Exploradores/as

It is made up of 36 explorers, divided into 4 patrols, the Lion Patrol, the Owl Patrol, the Fox Patrol and the Mallard Patrol, and is supervised by 7 scout leaders .

Camping, exploring and living in nature are challenges that fuel the passion of being a scout and, in particular, the passion of being an explorer .

With your help, we will make a difference not only for this generation of explorers but also for all those that will follow and who will be able to benefit from this material over the coming years.

Budget and due dates

The total budget to renew our camping equipment is approximately €2000, around €500 for each of our 4 scout patrols . To carry out this campaign, we decided to set a target of €1,281, an amount that reminds us of our group’s number and, without the PPL fees, equals 60% of what we need to raise..

The expedition will cover the remaining 40%, however, as it is possible to support the campaign beyond the established target , any extra help will be welcome and will help to reduce the section's expenses. This way, we can use the money we manage to raise to put the knowledge into practice and the new material in the field.

Orçamento

The amount raised will be used to purchase:

• 8 tents with better stability and comfort, waterproofing and heat reduction;
• 4 more practical and safe stoves to allow you to cook with fun and autonomy;
• 4 cookware kits that allow you to explore cooking and have more responsibility in managing materials;
• 4 utensil kits so you can cook and prepare meals in a practical and safe way;
• 4 lighting kits ideal for adventures in the dark and so that no one is afraid to go camping.

Thus, 58% will be allocated to the purchase of tents, 12% for stoves, 11% for pans, 6% for utensils, 4% for lighting and 9% will cover the PPL commission fees.

Material

As for the timing, this purchase will have to be made in April, as there will be a period of organization and adaptation to the new materials. The ultimate goal is to prepare the elements for the large regional camp that will take place this year in August.

Therefore, our calendar will be as follows:

• March: training on camps to put all elements on an equal footing;
• April/May: acquisition of new material and first workshops on how to use and care for it;
• June/July: camps to test material and prepare for the regional camp;
• August: great week-long adventure at the regional camp in the Porto region.
