Boa Vontade Residência Adaptada is 54 years old on December 18th. Help us make this birthday special!

Boa Vontade Residência Adaptada, also known as Cheshire Homes Portugal, celebrates its 54th birthday on December18th. Since it was founded, it has been home for hundreds of people with physical disabilities. We currently provide 24/7 care for 31 residents, aged 22-82.

We receive donations and aid from companies and individuals, for which we are very grateful. However, in recent years, the equipment and appliances we use everyday for the distribution of meals, cleaning and maintenance of the home, have deteriorated, and it is necessary to replace them.

To make the home more welcoming and operational we need € 620 to help replace essential equipment. A new vacuum cleaner is vital to guarantee cleanliness and a food trolley is needed to distribute meals to residents who, due to varying degrees of disability, cannot eat in the dining area.

Boa Vontade Residência Adaptada is a home in Carcavelos, in the Cascais area, which was purpose-built for people with physical disability, for males and females over the age of 18.

Boa Vontade Residência Adaptada, formerly called "Lares da Boa Vontade", was founded by British Royal Air Force pilot Geoffrey Leonard Cheshire, recognised as a war hero in World War II. After his visit to Portugal to give a conference in Lisbon, The Leonard Cheshire Disability, an institution founded by him in the United Kingdom, was established in Portugal on December 18th, 1964. The first home was in Oeiras, with eight female residents. In 1971, it was moved to a larger house in Carcavelos where the number of residents was increased to 12. Since 1985 the  home has been in its current facilities, in Avenida do Loureiro, Carcavelos.

In addition to the home's communal areas - dining room, living room and garden - Boa Vontade has an Occupational Activity Center, where residents and some external users engage in activities with the coordination of therapists.

Budget and due dates

We need to raise € 620 to cover the cost of the vacuum cleaner (€ 390.77), the food cart (€ 163.59), plus the administrative costs of this online campaign.

The equipment will be purchased as soon as we reach the required amount.
