Bárbara Passo a Passo (Barbara Footsteps)

Barbara Passo a Passo project aims to raise funds for Barbara rehabilitation. Barbara is 5 years old and has cerebral palsy. Barbara does not walk or talk ...with the intensive stimulation that she had, Barbara progressed much more than expected, contrary to the expected limitations due to extension of brain damages!

In 2013, after concluding  that this type of stimulation was very beneficial for her development,  her parents decided to start a solidarity campaign to continue with the same kind of rehabilitation.

For free, Barbara has on the Cerebral Palsy Center 1 weekly hour of physiotherapy, 3 monthly hours occupational therapy and 1 monthly hour of speech therapy . One can easily conclude that this won´t benefit all the potential of Barbara, because of her  many lesions scattered throughout the brain, nevertheless she has responded very positively to the stimulation.

 What is planned annually are two months of intensive stimulation at Clinical Chs-CEI Braga (7 hours of physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy), then maintenance at Clinic4you (kinesio kids) Coimbra (so that  achievements won´t be lost), then back to give another push in the intensive stimulation by two months, to again turn to maintenance.

Barbara is still in the age which is considered the pinnacle of neuroplasticity, which leads us to invest all this time. The more autonomy she gets, the less will be necessary to take corrective surgeries (paid by the state once paid for all of us ) and to rely on institutions (also paid by the state once paid by us) when the family is no longer here is  to support it.

Neste momento a Bárbara só precisa que empurrem a perna esquerda para avançar um pouco no gatinhar!!! Algo pouco provável para a classe médica devido às suas lesões na área cerebral responsável pela coordenação... Mas aqui está a prova de que muito trabalho traz resultados fantásticos!

 Know how much it is worth that you can leave your child lying on a mattress knowing he CAN SIT, without having to wait for someone to decide for him what to do?

I already know…has no price, simply because the act of living is a right.

About the author

As parents of Barbara we began the Solidarity Campaign in favor of Barbara in May 2013.

Parents, with the help of family and friends, has promoted several initiatives to achieve the required values for the (re) habilitation of our little Barbara ... So far it has been a success because without that helps Barbara would not had the success she´s having so far!

The initiatives have been diverse, from collecting of plastic caps of cork stoppers and bottle caps, to concerts, hiking, private donations, etc., etc. This dynamic is all documented in the facebook page of Barbara (Barbara Passo a Passo).

The solidarity campaign has lasted for almost two years and their success is due to the fact that people realize that their help is essential to the progress of small Barbara! And the victories are followed, as they are published one by one, step by step. Each victory reflects every solidarity act!
