About the author
The SOL-Association for Support to Children Affected and Infected by HIV/AIDS-IPSS , was created on December 17, 1992, being the only association, at national level, dedicated to supporting children/young people infected/affected by this virus .
The life project of a child infected and affected by the AIDS virus is seen in this association in the same perspective as that of a healthy child. Always bearing in mind their specific needs, we must provide them with everything that they, as a child, are entitled to, namely the possibility of growing up in a family environment in a climate of happiness, love and understanding.
This project divides its performance into five major responses:
1 -Childhood and Youth Home – Casa SOL
Casa Sol is a house with a limited number of children, where affective proximity, trust, security, a sense of belonging are fostered and the feeling of family always emerges, creating a feeling of comfort and belonging in the children. As such, words like cafeteria, dormitory and playground are replaced by dining room, boys' room, girls' room and gardens.
2-CAAI - Integrated Service and Support Center
It is a center that provides support to children/young people infected/affected by HIV and their families who are at home, in a situation of physical and/or psychological dependence and who cannot temporarily ensure that their basic needs are met.
3-CEP – Education and Prevention Center
Promotion and awareness in the community for the prevention of risk behaviors associated with the problem of HIV and acquisition of healthy behaviors, providing young people with knowledge and values that help them to develop attitudes and adopt informed and aware behaviors and attitudes.
The center promotes education and prevention actions for students in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic and secondary education.
4-ConSOLidar Ties - Vacation Camp
The summer camp aims to provide 15 HIV-infected children/youths with a unique holiday, where they can share experiences and questions regarding the common factor, being HIV positive.
5 - SOL autonomy apartments
These apartments were developed to work as a method of promoting autonomy for 5 young people from Casa Sol, giving them a space in which they can develop skills, allowing for an adequate transition to an autonomous life, in a safe, full and integrated way.
Budget and due dates
Regarding the timing of this campaign, the objective will be to gather the necessary amount for the purchase of goods by the beginning of December.
The amount raised will be used to purchase 30 products of previously selected essential goods (cod, oil, vinegar, flour, eggs, sugar, etc.) that will make up a Christmas basket that will be offered to each of the families that we support in the CAAI valence , providing them with a special Christmas dinner. These 30 products cost around €67 each, totaling around €2000 for the 30 families.
