Friends, the little cat Angel was taken in almost dying, she had a transfusion and is fighting for her life. The dog Fanny has been hospitalized for almost 2 months because she almost lost her paw after being run over and abandoned. And so many others needing help...

The Patinhas sem Lar Association, based in Espinho, was created 12 years ago. We have a dog shelter with capacity to house 100 dogs, and a cattery with capacity for 80 cats. All animals are properly vaccinated, dewormed and neutered if they are over 6 months old. In addition to the money spent on keeping the animals in the best possible health conditions, there are also high costs for animals rescued from the streets that need urgent veterinary care: animals that have been run over with bone fractures, animals with parasitic and other diseases, litters of abandoned newborn dogs and cats. Requests for help are received daily. We created this campaign with the aim of raising 5,000 euros to pay off part of the debt related to veterinary treatments, so that we can continue to help so many sick animals left to fend for themselves.

About the author

My name is Ana Paula Castro, I am 58 years old, a doctor specializing in Clinical Pathology, and a professor of Medical Microbiology at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) in Porto. My passion for animals led me to create the Patinhas sem Lar Association 12 years ago in Espinho, in collaboration with other people who, like me, are sensitive to the animal cause. At the time, the purpose of creating the association was to care for 70 dogs that were abandoned on an isolated plot of land in Paramos, Espinho. Since then, we have collected and given up for adoption more than 3,000 dogs and cats. Our aim is to ensure that the animals we collect are housed for as little time as possible. After basic veterinary care, including deworming, vaccination and sterilization, they are publicized on various platforms to promote their responsible adoption. The motivation for this project is to make the care we provide viable, by paying off part of the veterinary debts we have taken on.
