Anália can walk again, with everyone's support!

Anália had an accident while climbing a tree. Sue injured her spine and lost her mobility. At the Maputo Central Hospital we realized that, with physiotherapy, Anália can recover! Help Analia to walk again!

Anália was born in 2005, in the village of Macia, in Mozambique. She grew up as many other children in Mozambique: she went to school, helped her mother at home, went to the machamba and played a lot.

At the end of 2018, in one of these games, Anália fell from a tree and injured her spine. She was operated at the Maputo Central Hospital, and it is expected that, with physiotherapy, she would be able to walk again.

But in 2019, when GASPORTO met Anália, she had given up on school and the idea that one day she would walk again. We had never sponsored a child with reduced mobility, but we couldn't ignore Anália's sadness as she talked about how much she liked school.

In February 2020, Anália was integrated in one of our projects and returned to school in a wheelchair provided by GASPORTO donors.

Then the pandemic came and, with hospital services suspended, we had to postpone the reassessment of little Anália's health situation. But, as soon as it was possible, we returned to the Special Clinic of the Maputo Central Hospital and, after many conversations with several clinicians, the good news start bouncing around: there is hope that Anália will regain her mobility! There is a plan to go through this hard road, but we have Anália willpower alongside our support. And, luckily, your help too!

GASPORTO is a Portuguese NGO that, in the village of Macia, in Mozambique, develops the program “ Crescer de Maos Dadas ” since 2007. The aim of this program is to promote the integral development of orphans or vulnerable children, guaranteeing them access to education, health and primary goods, among other things, through: the donation of a basic monthly kit, an annual school kit, school assistance, medical assistance, house rehabilitations, promotion of visits with a socio-educational nature, various contacts between godfather and godson and training for local professionals.

Budget and due dates

With this money we will:

• carry out medical appointments, exams and physiotherapy sessions (for 1 year)* - €1314

• purchase orthopedic support material - €1063.57

• ensure Anália's travels to the hospital - €543

• guarantee the follow-up of the GASPORTO professional in Mozambique - €75

• PPL fees - €304.43

* The evolution of the treatment depends on many factors, so the medical team cannot predict the time horizon of the treatment. They prescribe a 1-year treatment, which will then be re-evaluated.

Our goal is to raise this amount by the end of the year!
