Adopet App - Adoption and Lost Animals

Adopet actively works to provide a second chance at happiness to many animals. With the support of this application, no animal will be left behind, whether in search of a new home or returning to its family!

The Adopet App was created with the aim of minimizing two major problems related to animals:

1. The number of animals in many animal shelters and treatment centres is greater than the current capacity they can handle. (1) (2)

2. In Portugal, an average of 8,283 animals are reported missing each year. (3) (4)

In order to help minimize these problems, Adopet will be a free mobile application (Android and iOS) with two main objectives:

1) Create a responsible adoption community, where users will be able to look for a new home for an animal, either by choosing to adopt it or allowing other users to do so, always in a responsible manner.

The main features to achieve this goal are:

• Publication in the application's main feed of animals that need a home;

• Customization and editing of the characteristics of the animal to be adopted;

• Possibility to indicate the requirements needed for community users to be eligible for adoption;

• Communication between users through direct chat for effective and objective communication;

• Sharing relevant information and spreading the need for responsible adoption across various social networks.

2) Create a community to support the rescue of lost animals by reporting, via the application, an animal reported as lost or found.

In order to maximize these numbers, the following features will be included:

• Integration with Google Maps, making it possible to identify on the map the locations where the respective animals were reported missing/found, in order to increase the community's search capacity and close observation;

• Notification service that will be sent, in real time, to users, with the aim of alerting them to the existence of animals that are lost or that have been found near the user.

Through the features described above, the Adopet App aims to improve the quality of life of the most needy animals by finding them a suitable family and home and also increasing the chances of a lost animal being found, safe and sound, and returned to its family.

About the author

This project was created by a group of friends (Rodrigo Cotrim, Leonel Santos, Xavier Silva, João Freitas and Francisco Soares) who work in the technology sector and who have a common interest in helping to improve the lives of many animals that, unfortunately, for various reasons, are abandoned, lost or homeless.

We believe that this application can respond to the urgent need to solve the problems identified, by reaching a greater number of users who also share our concern for the life and well-being of animals.

Adopet aims to help all those who want to adopt responsibly and, as well, provide the necessary tools to report a case of a lost animal, specifically, a set of reliable information provided by the entities responsible for animal care, which users must follow so that they can help animals in the best way.

Our team includes three computer engineers and a designer who will be responsible for prototyping, developing and maintaining the entire application.

• Hosting Costs (estimated minimum 2000 users) - €356.12

• Advertising (Social Media, Newspapers, Street Posters, Buses) - €256.13

• Rewards for project supporters (Purchase Cost + Shipping Costs) - €350

• PPL Platform Commission - €276.75
