Save the bees and fix wasp traps

Save the bees and set traps to control the wasp.

At the time of the swarm I always catch several swarms in the greater Lisbon area, swarms that need treatments for varroa and nossema.

And for which sometimes the money I make available is enough so I'm trying to raise funds for treatments, and improve traps to control the Asian wasp.

The prestigious Royal Geographical Society in London has already declared bees as irreplaceable living beings, as they play a fundamental role in biodiversity. Pollination is so important that without it plants could not reproduce, which would lead to the extinction of species of terrestrial fauna on the planet. That's why bees are crucial for our planet and for the rest of the species.

As Einstein warned, “If bees disappear from the face of the Earth, humanity will only have four more years to live. Without bees there is no pollination, there is no reproduction of flora, without flora there are no animals, without animals there will be no human race.”

Recent studies show a dramatic decline in bee numbers , as much of the bee population has disappeared in recent years. The uncontrolled use of pesticides, deforestation or the lack of flowers are the main reasons for their extinction. All over the world, bees are dying at an astonishing rate. Of the 68 existing species in Europe, 24% were endangered in 2014 and, in the United States, 44% of existing colonies disappeared in 2016.

The figures are from the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources' Red List of Threatened Species.

Bees live in hives, whether natural or artificial. Inside, there is a queen, an adult and fertile bee, mother of all the other bees in the hive. Among these are about 15,000 worker bees, who use wax to build combs (formed by cells in the shape of a hexagonal prism), where they store honey and pollen to feed both larvae and adult insects; and about 1500 drones whose main function is to fertilize the queen. Each bee has, on average, between 28 and 48 days of life, with the exception of the queen, which can have up to 5 years of life.

I'm José Silva I work with bees as a hobby.

About the author

My name is Jose Silva

I have a passion for bees I like to help and treat, and at the moment bees have more and more enemies like varroa, diseases like oursma and Asian wasp that destroys many hives every year.

At the time of the swarm I always catch several swarms in the greater lisbon area swarms that need treatments for varroa and nossema and protection of the Asian wasp

At the moment I am developing a project for an innovative trap, with tests that prove to be very effective in controlling the Asian wasp and I intend to produce some more to be able to control the wasp in the apiaries.

And for which sometimes the money I make available is not enough so I'm trying to raise funds for treatments, and improve traps for the control of the Asian wasp

Budget and due dates

The objective is to improve the bee boxes and manufacture traps for the Asian wasp, costs will be around 440 euros

and acquire treatments for varroa and nossema which should cost 180 euros

The objective is to obtain support until the 15th of June, when the colonies present more varroa infestations.
