The Medicine Night is the largest and oldest academic show in the country, having appeared in 1929! This is now a non-profit, solidarity-based project, carried out annually by finalists from the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon.
The Medicine Night is the largest and oldest academic show in the country! Nowadays, more than a show, the Medicine Night is a non-profit project, with a solidary nature, carried out annually by the finalists of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon.
The Medicine Night is the largest and oldest academic show in the country. Its history began in 1929 , and, despite its ironic content and social and academic criticism, it survived the periods of censorship of the Estado Novo, growing year after year, with the commitment of all the students of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon.
It is, therefore, a musical theater show with the aim of portraying and satirizing the daily life of a medical student, with all its concerns, doubts and passions. With an audience of about 3300 people (among students, family members, teachers, doctors and staff), 400 students take the stage, showing that they are much more than just medical students.
But the Medicine Night is seen as much more than a show. It is a unique moment of conviviality and union of the academic community, a moment of reception of the new students and the farewell of the finalists to the professional world.
This is also a non-profit solidarity project , having supported numerous IPSSs over the years. The next edition will maintain this solidarity nature and is already being prepared, with a date set for November 2022.
Here, you have the opportunity to support the realization of this dream. A dream that belongs to all these students, but never just theirs. A dream that we want to live, experience, feel, share and not just dream. A dream that represents history and tradition, the future and change. A dream that represents us and unites us!
With your help, this dream will come true!
About the author
"One night a year, students from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon exchange their books and gowns for the stage, to star in a show that celebrates academic life.”, Catarina Cruz, Jornal de Notícias (November 2017)
We are more than 300 students in the 6th year of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon with the dream of celebrating medicine through art! We want to continue the largest and oldest academic show in the country and make this the best Medicine Night ever!
We are motivated by the responsibility of perpetuating this event with almost 1 century of history and the importance it has for us, as a milestone for the end of the course and for the reception of new colleagues.
We want to pass on to our family, friends, teachers, colleagues that being a medical student is much more than studying, because...

Budget and due dates
The Medicine Night has been growing exponentially with each passing year. This show, which began at the Teatro Politeama, passed through the Student Room of the Student Association of the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon (AEFML), the Aula Magna of the University of Lisbon and the Coliseu dos Recreios, has been taking place, in recent years, in the imposing Campo Small .
It has also conquered an audience that extends far beyond its students and acquaintances , changing from a one-off show to becoming a national phenomenon. This was due, in addition to the growth associated with the concert hall, also thanks to the success of sketches and videos presented there, marking their presence on various television channels and radio stations .
As finalists at the Faculty of Medicine, we dream of doing more and more, even better. We dream of giving free rein to the imagination and putting on a show that represents students and their multiple artistic talents. And as we well know, for all this to happen, some monetary support is needed. In this context, the idea of PPL crowdfunding came up, so that we can reach all those who are further away, our supporters from all corners of the country, from all over the world!
We count on you, so that in November we can make our dream come true!
