Portugal and Miguel will be at the Footgolf World Championship!

Miguel Maia is a federated footgolf athlete who managed to qualify for the Footgolf World Championship, which will be played in the USA. The Portuguese Federation will only provide symbolic support, with the athlete responsible for all other expenses.

Footgolf may not be the most common sport in Portugal, but it is what Miguel Maia practices with great dedication and dedication. Representing, at the moment, the Ravens Footgolf Club, from Marinha Grande, the athlete Miguel Maia managed to qualify for the next Footgolf World Championship, which will take place at the Walt Disney golf courses, in Orlando, in the United States of America . This is the sport's biggest competition and Miguel managed to reach it thanks to his discipline, determination and constant training routine that have also allowed him to achieve phenomenal results on the national circuit. In 2018 he attended the Footgolf World Championship in Marrakech and, the following year, he qualified for the European Footgolf Championship in the United Kingdom. In 2021, he was Winner of the Portuguese Footgolf Cup and also Vice-Champion of the National Footgolf Circuit. And if all this curriculum was not enough, in 2022, in addition to being Vice-Champion in the Pairs MatchPlay competition, he qualified for the great competition that we are talking about here today - the Footgolf World Championship .

Unfortunately, the Portuguese Footgolf Federation contributed only symbolic support, which is not enough to cover the costs of travel to the USA, accommodation and meals during the competition, not even the cost of registering for the tournament.

For all the reasons presented here, but above all because Miguel deserves to fulfill his dream of representing (and being proud of) his country in this World Cup, we launched this campaign to make this dream come true!

About the author

Miguel Maia is 33 years old and was born in Marinha Grande. He started playing football at the age of nine, at Vieirense and, at that age, perhaps footgolf did not yet exist. He started playing footgolf 6 years ago when, together with three other athletes, he founded the Ravens Footgolf Club, where he still plays today. Perhaps his profession, that of an architect, helped him to so brilliantly perceive the ball's trajectories, angles and tangents, making him such a complete athlete.

Budget and due dates

Miguel and his friends launched this campaign to help him fulfill his dream of representing Portugal in the Footgolf World Championship. The expenses that Miguel is still collecting funds for are:

• Travel from Portugal to the USA and return and transfers (approx €600);
• Accommodation during the tournament (approx €500);
• Meals during the tournament (approx €500);
• Tournament registration (€1200).

The tournament takes place between 26/05/2023 and 07/06/2023.
