Loving is not a crime

It is estimated that over 1 million people face death for loving someone! Being LGBTQI is not a crime, but it kills! Please help us to keep love free from prejudice and to allow all people to be who they are.

If Portugal has around 10 million people, estimates say that around 1 million are LGBTQI+.

There are many lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) people who suffer prejudice and discrimination on their skin every day. They are not free to be who they are, they are not free to love who they love.

The study by the European Agency for Fundamental Rights, in relation to LGBTQI+ people, says that:

64% do not speak openly about being LGBTI+ most of the time;

57% often or almost always avoid going hand in hand;

41% of young people between 18 and 24 years old hide being an LGBTI+ person in a school environment;

40% said that discrimination affected at least one area of their life: going to a cafe, restaurant, shop or hospital;

30% said they had been victims of some type of abuse (physical, emotional, psychological, etc.);

25% avoid certain places for fear of being assaulted, assaulted or threatened;

20% felt discrimination in the workplace.

You or someone in your family could be part of this statistic.
You or someone in your family can die or kill yourself, simply for being who you are.
You or someone in your family may not be free to love.

In 2021 , TransParente launched the first Portuguese digital platform for inclusion and respect for sexual and gender diversity, so that everyone can, more and more, be who they are. This month of May, we will raise funds to support the costs of holding the 4th edition of MOA - LGBTQI+ Pride March in the Algarve.

The 4th edition of the Algarve LGBTQI+ Pride March is already on the 27th of May.

About the author

TransParente is the first Portuguese digital platform for the promotion and respect for the inclusion of sexual and gender diversity, with a special focus on Trans and Non-binary issues. It was born in 2021 at the hands of Andreo Gustavo, a transgender man and activist for the LGBTQIAP+ cause, through the approval of a project to support the creation of his own business and support for entrepreneurship, by the IEFP of Faro.

TransParente's mission is to: Transform people and organizations; Transcend prejudices and stereotypes.

It aims to achieve a truly inclusive world through the values it promotes: Freedom, Generosity, Bravery, Questioning, Inclusion, Learning, Partnership and much more.

Budget and due dates

The costs of carrying out a march can be high for the financial capacity that most non-profit organizations in the Algarve area have. This campaign aims to raise not the total necessary to cover the costs, but what seems realistic to us to achieve with your generosity. We have very little time to get donations and it is absolutely necessary to be able to provide a memorable march for the entire Algarve community, whether LGBTQI+ or not, so that all people can live freely in harmony.

Here are some estimated costs:

• €2000 for municipal licenses and protection/monitoring by the PSP (mandatory)
• €450 for gifts
• €300 for animation/performance/shows
• 45€ for the Algarve LGBTQI+ March Banner
• 20€ for gasoline in the car that accompanies the march with speakers

All costs must be paid by the 27th of May, the day of the 4th Edition of the LGBTQI+ March in the Algarve
