Finally, a book entirely mine, written and illustrated by me! Portraits and stories of special people, like all of us, after all.
I've been asked for a long time about a project entirely mine, written and illustrated by me. I confess that it was never a priority or an intimate desire. In fact, I've always had – and still have – serious doubts about my ability to tell stories...
Here I am, however, bowed to the demands, determined to "throw myself to the lions" and tempted to reveal what I will eventually be better at and what I will be capable of. That's all, and I've already launched the motto for the next book: not all of us are good at the same things – and, sometimes, it seems like we're not good at anything –, but we all have something. There is something in all of us that, one day, reveals itself. A few months ago I found myself thinking: "You want me to write a book? But about what? What story can I tell? There are already so many books, so many beautiful texts and wonderful illustrations... what can I add that is interesting, special, mine?" A subject that moves me is the insensitivity of some human beings - children, young people and adults - to the difference, and the comments - sometimes unconscious and sometimes intentionally malicious - that affect the other's self-esteem (in limit, the so-called bullying, with greater or lesser expression).
The suggestion to write and illustrate a book was becoming an idea.
The idea that we are all different, with different abilities, with difficulties too, didn't come out of my head. All. But we all have something... something good... or something we're good at. But when those around us are always alerting us to what we're not good at – even with the intention of seeing us improve – we tend to focus too much on it and lose energy to find what we're best at. , really good!
The idea was starting to grow.
We don't all have to be good at Portuguese or math, we don't all have to choose the path reducing options to letters or science, not all of us are good at the same things - and sometimes it even seems like we're not good at anything - , but we all have something. There is something in all of us that, one day, reveals itself.
The idea grew, took root and became a will.
I want to bring to the world a book that is beautiful in every way, beautiful inside and out! It will tell stories of fantastic people, exhibit unique portraits, yet where we can all see each other again.
Guys, let's go then help me with this?
