“Today I woke up feeling bad”
Have you ever had a bad night's sleep? For us, what keeps us up at night is thinking about filming a music video for the acclaimed rising band from Porto - Marquise.
Marquise appears in the country of morgadinhas, from the tradition of melodic pavements from the 90s, of hammered tableware and dishes waved by the wind. It all starts with M, in the rock sugarcane fields that Júlio Dinis dreamed of, where pretty girls use distortion pedals and criticize liberal ideas — Marquise is Mafalda, Matias and Miguel times two, like someone looking in the mirror eye-to-eye. Together they make music like Kurt or Cobain, winking at the suicidal geniuses of handmade eras, with a female voice capable of bringing them back to life. In Seattle it rained all year round and musicians locked themselves in the garage to play. The Marquise wanted to be a balcony in Porto, but they blocked the outdoors. Now, equipped with a throat, drumsticks and reeds, she fiercely attacks the walls to make herself known to the world. The songs are hitting hard, open a window to it. - Daniel Catarino
From the band's most listened to song - “Acordei Mal” - comes the concept to represent it visually:
When Mafalda, the vocalist, falls asleep, she is disturbed by irritations of all kinds. The band plays “Acordei Mal” while the reasons for Mafalda waking up badly are revealed.
