X PADRECOS
The Association Tuna da Universidade Católica Portuguesa – Porto, in collaboration with the Portuguese Catholic University – Porto Regional Centre, will hold, on April 14 and 15, 2023, the Festival of University Tunas – X PADRECOS .
“PADRECOS” is a moment of celebration of Portuguese music and the national academic tradition. With 9 editions already in place, this is a cultural show that praises both the reputed concert halls of the city of Porto, as well as the well-known sidewalks and alleys of Foz do Douro. To drink from the environment and the “ tvneril ” culture of Porto, Tunas from all corners of the country gather.
The entire academic community, students and alumni are involved in the organization of this project. It is within this unique framework that we promote our music, singing and living the expression that best characterizes us.

Legend has it that, in mid-1989, a group of students from the Catholic University of Portugal - Porto Regional Center got together with the aim of promoting Music, Tradition and Academic Bohemia in their University. Thus, in December 1989, this group, already with more enthusiasts, presented itself under the name "Mendes Harmónica Trio" at the Christmas parties of the Students' Association of the Faculty of Law and School of Biotechnology of the Portuguese Catholic University - Porto.
As a result of this enthusiasm and academic spirit, on March 30, 1990, according to Praxis, with a Monumental Baptism by its Godparents (Tuna de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto - TEUP), with the holy water of the Fonte dos Leões and with the fortified wine from the banks of the Douro River, the magnanimous, glorious and magnificent Tuna da Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto was born.
Thus, Tuna da Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto emerged as a space for cultural and gastronomic interaction among university students, in particular from the Faculties of Law, Economics and Management, Theology, School of Biotechnology, School of Arts, Psychology and Health Sciences, where all its members study.
Tuna da Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto is a living and renewed testimony of this already old tradition in Portugal - the Academic Tunas. Manifestation par excellence of student life, it combines the rigor and seriousness of academic attire, respect for Tradition, the joy of youth and the bohemia of students.
Tuna da Universidade Católica Portuguesa is also very well received by other audiences who, although are not used to this type of cultural manifestation, quickly adhere to a joyful, youthful and spontaneous form of performance. An example of this was Tuna's spectacular tours around the world.
Over the last 30 years, Tuna da Universidade Católica Portuguesa - Porto held its Festival, named PADRECOS (in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2019), a festival that was held biennially, with the participation and friendship of several Tunas from the national and international scene.
For Tuna da Universidade Católica Portuguesa, this is the history that matters: the companionship and friendship between all those who passed through it; the esoteric and endless discussions; the songs we sing and play; the serenades, the loving, the gallantry, the kisses; the trips, digressions and tours; the dinners (the good ones and the bad ones), the wines, the toasts, the trampled stages and the backstage of the artists; the police, the teachers, the classmates... and everything that everyone wants to keep sweetly in the corner of their memories.
