OTROS has grown rapidly and we want to consolidate it as a cultural space in Lisbon. We are seeking support to fund a regular program of training, creation, exchange, and events.
Help us grow OTROS as a Center for Training, Creation and Research in Contemporary Dance.
Hello everybody!
We are DÚVIDA INSUBMISSA - Associação Cultural, a collective of 14 artists from different areas, including dance, performance, music, visual arts and other practices, who came together in Lisbon with the desire to create, experiment and build an independent artistic community.
Last year we launched a campaign to build a professional dance floor for our new project, OTROS.
Thanks to the support of many people, we were able to build the pavement. But the story didn't end there. In fact, that's where it began.
Since we started, the project has grown far beyond our expectations. We've organized workshops with national and international artists, regular classes, residencies, performances, and multidisciplinary events. We've met new artists, welcomed people from diverse backgrounds, and begun building a community around us.
Some artists started to return. Participants began asking for more training. New collaborations and new ideas emerged.
We realized there was a real need for continuity and that we didn't want OTROS to be just a series of workshops or one-off events. We want to build a platform that can operate throughout the year.
We still need to finish paying for the pavement.
The construction of the pavement was made possible thanks to donations and fundraising from our first campaign. We are very grateful to everyone who helped us. However, we still have €9,661 in pavement costs to pay.
Part of this campaign will go towards completing that payment. But this time we also want to ask for your help with what happens on top of that pavement.
What do we want to do now?
We want to continue developing OTROS and create a regular program of training, creation, and research in contemporary dance, along with activities and events that cross different disciplines and artistic languages.
For 2026-2027 we are preparing intensive workshops with national and international artists, regular classes and new opportunities for residency, creation, presentation and events.
We want to bring artists with different experiences and methodologies to Lisbon, allowing dancers, performers, and students to discover other ways of working with and thinking about dance.
We also want to create opportunities for emerging artists, support research processes, and develop performances and events that bring dance closer to other artistic languages and different audiences.
To do all this, we need to pay artists and teachers, support travel and accommodation for international artists, and invest in technical equipment, production, and communication.
Therefore, we are asking for your help again.
Lisbon has a very active and international artistic community, but there are still few independent structures dedicated continuously to training, research and creation in contemporary dance. Many artists work between different spaces, projects and cities, without having a place where they can develop their work continuously.
That's why we believe OTROS can play an important role in Lisbon. We want to create a space where artists can train, research, create, teach and meet, but also where different audiences can discover contemporary dance and other forms of artistic expression.
We want this space to be open, accessible, and constantly evolving, contributing to a more connected, diverse, and sustainable artistic community.
OTROS started with an idea and a floor that didn't even exist yet. Today, there is a space where people dance, explore, and meet.
And we want to continue to make it grow.
If you believe in the importance of independent spaces for dance, for artists, and for the community, you can help us continue.
Every contribution helps us pay for what we've already built and create the conditions for everything we want to do next.
The pavement is already built. Now we want to fill it with dancing.
With love and gratitude,
Unsubmissive Doubt – Cultural Association
