"74" Webseries

"Miguel embarks on a road trip aboard his grandfather's car to unravel the secret that has shaken the family since his death." With your help, we'll all know the answer!

As part of a Transversal Project of the Master's in Audiovisual Communication for New Media, at the Universidade de Aveiro, in partnership with RTP (Rádio e Televisão de Portugal)    ,  we were challenged to develop an audiovisual product, thus arising the idea of creating and producing the webseries "74".

"74" tells the story of Miguel, a young man who doesn't know who he is. Living tormented by the recurring arguments that his mother and aunt have had since the death of his grandfather, Miguel decides to run away from home in his grandfather's car, in search of answers to the family's secrets and together with Catarina, a young woman he meets at the beginning of the trip, manages to find himself and discover what his family kept hidden from him.

This webseries will feature 3 episodes of 15 to 20 minutes, available for free on YouTube, in which a transmedia narrative expansion will be added on multiple platforms. There is also the possibility, in the future, to condense the webseries into a short film to be submitted for national and international film and audiovisual festivals.

At the moment, the 1st episode is already in the post-production phase, with the 2nd and 3rd episodes still to be recorded. Its premiere is scheduled for early June.

We genuinely believe in the potential of this idea and in our ability to make it a reality however, the lack of funding is a problem. As we are a group of academic students, we are limited in what we can invest without conditioning our personal lives and, therefore, we believe that with the right support, we can reach our expectations and create a project with the desirable conditions, thus maintaining the respect for ourselves, for those who work with us and for the art and magic of film and audiovisual production. About the author

We are a group of 5 students of Audiovisual Communication for New Media with different backgrounds and paths, but with two things in common: the passion for cinema and the desire to take the "74" of the paper.

Although we are a small team, we work with the same strength as a large group. All carry out their duties with rigor, Vasco Silva as director, Inês Silva as producer, Paups as script supervisor and social media manager, Lara Pereira as assistant director and screenwriter and Gonçalo Santos as director of photography and set photographer.

Among some audiovisual projects in which we have already been involved, a large part of the team recently worked on the production of the short film "Casca" (2023), also created in an academic context.

Budget and due dates

The total budget for "74" is around €960, with an average price per episode of €320. To carry out this campaign, we chose to set the target value at two-thirds of the total value for each episode, to which €65 is added to pay for the PPL Commissions.

Our main objective is to reduce the individual expenses of the members of the group, but any extraordinary support for the already established goal will be welcome and will allow more flexibility for the group.

Of the requested amount, 23% will be used to cover production costs and 6% for costs related to art, 26% is destined for the cast (accommodation, catering, travel expenses, etc.), and 36% for the team, namely 23% for food expenses and 13% for travel expenses. The equipment used belongs to the team members and Departamento de Comunicação e Arte, of Universidade de Aveiro, so there are no rental costs. The remaining 9% corresponds to PPL commissions.

Concerning scheduling, for reasons related to our master's calendar and intermediate presentation times, the episodes are produced at different times, with episode 1 having already been produced in its entirety.
