Help us stand with Teachers in this year of unprecedented challenges!
This year is particularly challenging for everyone! Mentes Empreendedoras (Entrepreneurial Minds) knows first-hand how important Schools and Teachers are in the lives of our young people!
The School is not only the place where paths for the future are created ... the School is today, more than ever, the place that ensures food for those who are hungry, identifies and protects victims of domestic violence or helps vulnerable families to receive help. And the country, and all families, have never needed the School so much and everyone who contributes so that students continue to study, learn, and build their future.
However, the restrictions and consequences of the pandemic have hampered the conditions and financial resources that allow us to value and support our Teachers. So, our choice was clear: this year more than ever, we are with schools and teachers! But we have to count on your collaboration to help us make another edition of the Global Teacher Prize Portugal.
Together we will support our teachers' inspiring projects!
Participate in our crowdfunding so that, this year, it is possible to continue teaching appreciation. For all and for all. Our partners Delta Cafés, Brave Generation Academy and Galp Foundation have already supported one third of this crowdfunding and the Entrepreneurial Minds believe that they must accompany the effort that we are asking the community, and so, we entered this crowdfunding with 10222 euros.
About the author
The Global Teacher Prize is an international award, promoted by the Varkey Foundation, recognized as the "Nobel Prize for Education", and reaches teachers from more than 120 countries.
Each year, this award not only awards the winner a million dollars, but also encourages a network of teachers with the 50 finalists.
Afonso Mendonça Reis, as promoter of the project "Inspira o Professor" and jury of the international award, was invited to create an edition of the award in Portugal, through the association Mentes Empreendedoras , which he leads.
Through a team that combines diverse professional skills and the support of all partners who joined the initiative, the Global Teacher Prize Portugal emerged. For more information on what drives us, we share these two articles: Teachers: Thanks and Palmas for the superheroes or It's time to say good things about the Teachers! where we explain it.
How we support teachers
Also this year, the edition of the Global Teacher Prize Portugal has a prize of € 30,000, with the aim of valuing the profound importance of teachers in the development of our country and each community where it operates. We also continue to support educational projects for teachers, promoting opportunities for the exchange of experiences, collaboration and the sharing of good practices.
The award is aimed at all teachers who practice the profession, from pre-school to the 12th year of schooling (regular or others).
Valuing all teachers
The Global Teacher Prize Portugal was also created to share knowledge and bring the subject “Education” to the agenda, raising awareness and making the entire community responsible for the importance of each person's contribution to creating new responses to the challenges that arise.
We believe that investing in the education of our children impacts all aspects of society, the quality of life of families and helps to create a prosperous and sustainable society.
Each teacher, as the protagonist of education, has the possibility of making a difference on a daily basis, and with it, an immense responsibility.
Together we make a better school
Development is inevitable, but the way forward will have to be built with everyone's contribution. Teachers certainly have a strong and difficult role in finding new ways to serve current needs.
Portugal, in addition to wanting to highlight its teachers worldwide, also wants to reward and highlight, at the national level, all teachers who in some way contribute to excellence in education and to innovation and the discovery of new educational responses.
