Handwritten letters, personalized as an expression of gratitude for health professionals who are on the front lines of the Covid fight19.
Escrita no Coração is inspired by a family experience. In 2008, me, Rute, who is my wife and our two daughters at the time, Francisca, 3 years old and Laura, 1 year old, decided to go live as volunteers for drug and alcohol recovery centers. For 5 years we lived this experience with an immense intensity, and although it was 5 of the best years of our life, we ended this experience completely exhausted emotionally and mentally. We were unable to continue helping people, we were the ones who needed help. At that moment, the urge to take care of those who care was marked on our skin.
This is the main objective of this project, to take care of those who care, knowing that this way we will be taking care of everyone!
As a result of the negative impact that all health professionals are subject to in fighting this epidemic ("50% of health professionals show signs of burnout, anxiety and stress"), we decided that this was the time to start with this project. Somehow create an alternative that would improve the daily lives of doctors, nurses, technicians and medical assistants who are at the forefront of the fight against Covid19. So we decided to send handwritten and personalized letters as an expression of gratitude to these health professionals and with the aim of minimizing the negative impact that the current circumstances are causing them.
So far we have involved more than 400 people in the writing of 160 letters, which have already been delivered and the reactions of both the recipient and the writer are indicative of a huge feeling of gratitude. We managed, within the current limitations, to collect images and videos with the testimonies of those involved, which allowed us to publicize the project online and generate a "wave" of generosity and gratitude that has been growing.
With this campaign we intend to raise funds that will allow us to continue to grow and reach more people. In addition to having already identified over 100 health professionals to write for, the possibility of entering other hospital services that have shown an interest in developing this project with their teams, our desire is to continue to create and develop ways of taking care of different types of caregivers that exist.
At a time when it is so necessary to cultivate positive emotions, to express feelings of gratitude and encouragement, we cannot stop and for that we need your help!
