Twelve children break the cycle of school dropout in Mozambique, attending the eighth year of schooling in the village of Massaca, 60 kms from Ndivinduane, where they grew up.
In one country (Mozambique) marked by high dropout rates, early pregnancies and a region with great poverty and lack of resources, there are 12 youngsters interested in pursuing their studies and attending eighth grade.
Staying in Ndivinduane, where the majority of the population lives on agriculture and where unemployment rages, will amount to a life of hardship. Continuing to study may be their ticket to a better life for them and their family.
In his village, the seventh year marks the end of school. 60 kms away, in the village of Massaca, there is a school to welcome them and where they can continue their studies. For this, these youngsters will have to live in Massaca, since the distance does not allow them to return home daily. To ensure that they are properly accompanied, they will live with a foster family.
Classes are starting and without your support, these young people will not go to school for another year.
This campaign will allow a dozen young people to break the cycle of droping out of school, living in the village of Massaca, and attending the eighth year of school.

Fátima Azevedo da Costa
She lived in Mozambique during her childhood and youth.
Throughout the year, she monitors the functioning of the Ndivinduane nursery and school, its activities and formations, and seeks, from Portugal, to promote them through the Capulana Association.
Once a year she visits the village of Ndivinduane where she listens to the population and carries out training actions according to their needs.
Inês Machava
Coming from the city of Boane, Inês is currently the Childhood Education Coordinator, and one of the directors of the Massaca school. It is linked to the Fundação Encontro, giving training.
At the beginning of 2017, she came to Portugal, with the support of the Capulana Association, for two weeks of training in different schools in Lisbon and Torres Vedras. Inês dreams and works so she can help children the way shw was helped.
António Mubtei
Also from the city of Boane, Professor António is one of the principals of the school of the Massaca and the Education Coordinator in the Fundação Encontro, where he also develops some training actions. At the beginning of 2017, he came to Portugal, with the support of the Capulana Association, for two weeks of training in different schools in Lisbon and Torres Vedras.
Antonio has the mission of helping children fulfill their dreams.
Budget and due dates
Total budget cost: 5400€ for 9 months
PPL Campaign: 3000€
The amount of 50€, monthly, is the amount per child to pay board (which will take place in foster families ), food and education (school supplies, 2 school uniforms and tuition).
This 3000€ campaign will allow the coverage for half a year tuitions.
The project will begin immediately so that they can be integrated in this school year: February to October 2017.

Passado um ano - Notícias da Dúzia Ao Oitavo
Caros amigos da Dúzia Ao Oitavo,
O tempo voa e já passou um ano desde o final da campanha “Uma Dúzia ao Oitavo”.
Graças ao apoio de todos, conseguimos garantir que os 12 jovens, rapazes e raparigas, da Aldeia de Ndivinduane prosseguissem nos seus estudos na Massaca, contrariando o ciclo de abandono escolar e fazendo a diferença na sua comunidade.
Passado este primeiro ano, vimos dar-lhe notícias do progresso escolar desta nossa Dúzia, desde que saíram da Aldeia de Ndivinduane. O balanço geral do grupo foi bom, sendo que metade terminaram com sucesso o Curso Técnico Profissional, em Serralharia e Electricidade, e os restantes continuam este ano no ensino secundário. Destes um passou para a 9ª classe e os outros reiniciaram este ano a 8ª classe, agora mais do que nunca, determinados a passar com distinção.
Foi um ano de grandes mudanças na vida destes jovens e de ambientação a uma nova família - família de acolhimento - , a uma nova escola, a uma nova comunidade, no fundo, a uma nova realidade, num meio maior e mais urbano.
Este ano continuamos a financiar os estudos de seis jovens na Escola Secundária da Massaca, garantindo-lhes transporte, alimentação, alojamento e acompanhamento escolar, continuando a apoiá-los e dando lhes a força necessária para que não desistam deste desafio a que se propuseram.
Para garantir um melhor aproveitamento escolar, desde o início do ano lectivo 2018, que os 6 alunos estão a ser acompanhados por um jovem de 24 anos, da Aldeia da Massaca, que lhes tem dado um acompanhamento como tutor e dando-lhes explicações para as várias disciplinas três vezes por semana.
Poderá continuar a acompanhar e a ajudar estes alunos, seguindo-nos nas redes sociais, e ficando a conhecer os nossos programas de apadrinhamento.
O pouco que cada um pode dar, representa em conjunto uma grande diferença na vida das crianças e jovens que apoiamos entre Portugal e Moçambique.
Mais uma vez, agradecemos o voto de confiança aquando da campanha “Uma Dúzia ao Oitavo”, sem o qual não conseguiríamos ter dado este grande passo na vida escolar destes jovens.
