Increaser Wings - education manual for volunteering

In this edition educators have at their disposal dozens of associated story which can inspire children to help each other and the world activities.

In 2011 (European Year of Volunteering) we published the children's book "We all have wings, but only volunteers can fly ", a learning tool of the education for volunteering project "Change the World" of our association. The success of this experiment that already reached more than 2.000 children made us create the "Wings Increaser - Education Manual for Volunteering" that needs your support. With this teaching tool educators can begin the process of creating a generation of volunteers. Sales of the manual revert to the implementation of the project for children "Change the World".

Fact: 11.5% of portuguese population practices volunteering, compared with the EU average of 24%. In the Netherlands is 57%. 

Our dream: Create a generation of volunteers who contribute largely to solving the problems of portuguese society and the world.

In a society in which active citizenship is very limited and specifically in helping others, it is urgent to create the foundation for a culture of volunteering. And this can only be achieved through education from an early age. So we created the project "Change the World" that through the short story "We all have wings, but only volunteers can fly" enacts moments and fun activities with children from pre-school up to middle school. This was the first children's book published in Portugal dealing on the subject of volunteering, released in 2011 - European Year of Volunteering. Had a great receptivity on the part of children and adults.

As great admirers of the tale, educators (parents / guardians, teachers, early childhood educators, socio-cultural animators, among others) have been asking us to support the achievement of fun activities that were beyond the reading of the story.

Consequently we created the "Wings Enhancer - Education Manual for Volunteering". In this edition educators have at their disposal dozens of associated story which can inspire children to help each other and the world activities. The goal is to replicate the MoM project, making the message reaches the largest possible number of children in the various contexts in which educational establishments are the ideal environment.

About the author

Sónia Fernandes, author of the  book"We all have wings, but only volunteers can fly" and founder of Magic Track - Volunteering School . 

Anthropologist and teacher in Humanitarian Action, Cooperation and Development. Developed work skills and national volunteering (since the age of 14) and internationally in countries like USA, Mozambique, Timor-Leste and Togo. As a trainer and teacher reached thousands of volunteers, professionals and students. Published several articles and two other books: Surviving in Mission (2009) and Mission Thoughts (2010). 

Ana Vasconcelos - With university attendance in Philosophy soon started volunteering at school. Later served as a volunteer in various nonprofit organizations and audiences (the homeless, immigrants, sex workers, children,...). Currently is the Treasurer of the direction of the Magic Track, which is co-founder. 

Joana Borges - Degree in Audiovisual Communication Technology, with teaching experience in "Audio" area. Started its journey as a volunteer providing support in the area of audiovisual and volunteering backstage. 

Volunteers: Cristina Costa Real, Dolores Ribeiro and Fátima Salgueiro, who are the official "wings increasers" leading directly to children the fun activities explaining them how to make his wings grow.
