Cantaquera Mission - Join your voice to ours!

The ProVocal Ensemble will be participating in an international choir competition from March 12th to 15th in Antequera, Spain. We will be the only Portuguese choir present, and to bring the voice of Portugal to our Spanish neighbors, we need your help.

The Dream

Music has always been what unites us. We are the ProVocal Ensemble and, after months of rehearsals and dedication, we will represent Portugal in the Cantaquera choir competition, organized by Interkultur, in Spain. This is not just a trip, it's an opportunity to raise the profile of our culture beyond our borders. But, for our voices to reach the stage, we need an extra push.

The Challenge

Participating in an international competition involves logistical costs that we cannot afford on our own. The Cantaquera Mission was created to cover the essential expenses of our delegation:

• Transportation for the group;
• Accommodation for choir members;
• Official registration for the competition.

About the author

The ProVocal Ensemble was born in 2021, as the result of the immense desire of a group of people, lovers of choral and vocal music, to continue making music. In the project that preceded it, it was possible to participate in several national and international competitions, most notably obtaining two silver medals at the 2016 World Choir Games in Sochi (Russia) and two silver medals and one gold medal at the 2019 European Choir Games in Gothenburg (Sweden).

“Pro” is a prefix of Latin origin meaning “in favor of”. The name ProVocal aims to demonstrate that this is a project “for” and “in favor of” the voice, using it to make music and share it. It is also a play on words, because they believe that the desire to “provoke” feelings and sensations in the audience that listens to them is inherent in any musical project.

The choir has performed in several competitions, most notably winning 2nd prize in the 2nd edition of the Coimbra Choir Competition in 2022, as well as 3rd prize in the 2023 edition of the Vocal Art Choir Competition. They have also participated in the World Choral Expo in Lisbon, organized by the International Federation for Choral Music , and in the Lisbon Sings! competition organized by Interkultur.

The choir participated in the 8th, 9th, and 12th editions of the Póvoa de Varzim Choral Music Meeting; performed in a concert at Casa da Música, at the invitation of the Banda de Fajões, and was also invited to join the 1st Classical Music Cycle of Marco de Canaveses. Notable participations also include the 4th edition of the Sacrum Monumentum Sacred Choral Music Meeting, the 14th Nádia Oliveira Choir Meeting, and, in 2023, the Outono en Son festival, held in Ponteareas (Galicia).

It has been directed since its foundation by conductor César Freitas.

Budget and due dates

Event: March 12-15, 2026

Registration payment: November 2025

Accommodation payment due: February 12, 2026

Payment for transport: March 1, 2026

The funds raised will be distributed as follows.

• Transportation: 30% (rental, fuel and tolls for 3 nine-seater vans + 7 flights between Porto and Antequera)
• Accommodation: 40% (3-night stay for 30 people)
• Registration fee: 20% (€50 per person + €350 for registration in the competition categories)
• PPL Commissions: 10%
