OUR STRENGTH IS CARING

Caring, with dignity, humanity and closeness, is and will always be one of the main missions of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Fundão.

Caring for the sick is one of the seven corporal works of mercy and, therefore, has been part of the DNA of the Misericórdias (charitable brotherhoods) for more than five centuries.
It is this legacy of service and compassion that we continue to honor today.

With the start of construction work on the new Continuing Care Unit , we are taking another essential step in fulfilling this mission, reinforcing the health and social solidarity response in this territory of Beira Interior.

This unit represents an urgent and necessary response for families who experience firsthand the fragility, dependency, and prolonged illness.
It will be a space where each bed represents comfort, compassionate care, treatment, recovery, and hope .

In a region with an aging population and growing healthcare needs, this new unit will allow for:

• to increase the capacity for reception and treatment;

• Strengthen the areas of physiotherapy, rehabilitation and continuing care;

• to provide better conditions of dignity and well-being to users and their families;

• to ensure more professionals are dedicated to caring for those who need it most;

• To improve the quality of life for citizens throughout the municipality and region.

This is a response from everyone and for everyone , but it implies a huge financial effort on the part of Santa Casa.
The realization of this project will only be possible with the support and solidarity of the community, citizens, businesses, institutions, families, and all those who recognize the importance of this work for the future of the Beira Interior region.

Budget and due dates

Overall project budget

The construction of the new Continuing Care Unit of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Fundão represents a large total investment, estimated at:

➡️ 6,000,000 € (six million euros)

This price includes:

• Construction and adaptation of the building;

• Clinical equipment and specialized furniture;

• Technical and therapeutic areas (physiotherapy, rehabilitation, wards, rooms);

• security, air conditioning and technology systems;

• Support material, comfort, and daily operation.

This is a structural investment for the Cova da Beira region, which will decisively strengthen the health and social solidarity response in the territory.

Amount to be raised through crowdfunding.

Although the overall cost is 6 million euros, the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Fundão aims, through this campaign, to raise a community contribution of:

➡️ 190,000 € (one hundred and ninety thousand euros)

This amount will be applied exclusively to essential equipment for the unit, allowing the initial operational spaces to be equipped and accelerating the start of services.

Crowdfunding goals (total €190,000)

For greater clarity and transparency, the €190,000 will be distributed across specific goals:

Goal 1 – Basic bedroom equipment

Adjustable beds, clinical mattresses, side tables, technical furniture and armchairs.
Estimated value: €70,000

Goal 2 – Essential physiotherapy and rehabilitation equipment

Therapeutic equipment, assistive devices, mobility and exercise equipment.
Estimated value: €60,000

Goal 3 – Monitoring equipment and support technology

Computers, clinical tablets, monitoring devices and record-keeping systems.
Estimated value: €40,000

Goal 4 – Complementary equipment for comfort and well-being

Transport chairs, adequate lighting, curtains, and everyday support solutions.
Estimated value: €20,000

Total target: €190,000

Campaign template

The campaign will operate on a "Keep What You Raise" format, ensuring that all donations collected will be applied directly to the defined goals, even if the total amount is not reached.

Santa Casa is committed to ensuring complete transparency , with regular updates, photographs, and reports on the execution of each phase.

Scheduled schedule

• Campaign start: After PPL validation

• Duration: 200 days (with possibility of extension)

• Goal achievement: As funds are raised.

• Completion of the project: July 2026

• Unit opening to the public: September 2026
