The Mula Cooperative needs a new roof — and we’re counting on you to help us. This space of resistance, creation, and community deserves a decent shelter. Help us strengthen the structure that sustains so many struggles and dreams.

The Mula Cooperative is much more than four walls. It is a space for culture, meeting, reflection and community in the heart of Barreiro.

Since 2018, we have been inhabiting and transforming a forgotten space in Telha Velha, giving it a new life with the hands and hearts of those who believe in the power of community. Here, we bake bread in a wood-fired oven, show independent films, organize popular dinners, workshops, concerts, debates and nourish the body and mind with a vegetarian canteen with affordable meals. It is a home built by all the people who pass through here and make it happen.

But right now, we need you. The kitchen roof and the oven chimney are at risk. With the wear and tear of time and frequent leaks, we have reached the point where continuing without major intervention could compromise the safety of the space and make essential activities of the Mula Cooperative unfeasible — such as bread production, community dinners and the operation of the canteen.

After many repairs and repairs carried out with great effort by the members themselves, the time has come to act more decisively. We have therefore launched this campaign to ensure a thorough intervention that will solve the roof problem once and for all. To do this, we need to raise €20,823 + VAT, an amount that covers the costs of materials, skilled labour and structural work. Without this investment, the future of many of the activities that keep the Mula Cooperative alive is at risk.

Mula Cooperative is a community-based project, an independent and non-profit project, where everything is done by and for the people. Every contribution, no matter how small, is a step towards keeping this space open, active and safe.

Support this campaign. Help us keep a firm roof over our heads so we can continue to create strong bonds in the community.

Cooperativa Mula

About the author

Cooperativa Mula is a cultural and community association located in Barreiro, founded in 2018 by a group of people who believe in the power of sharing, sustainability, culture and activism as tools for social transformation.

In a space that was previously abandoned, we created a living center, built with collective effort, where we hold affordable vegetarian dinners, independent film sessions, concerts, workshops, community gardens, an organic grocery store, artisanal bakery and much more.

With over 40 active members and hundreds of regular participants, the Mula Cooperative is an independent, horizontal and consolidated project. Over the years, it has hosted a variety of events, established partnerships with various entities and participated in local and European projects.

Everything we do is driven by direct community involvement — and now we’re counting on your support to keep our space safe and open to everyone. The urgent repair of the roof is essential to continue to welcome you in comfort and safety.

Budget and due dates

Our goal is to completely repair the roof in order to solve the structural problems of the building that houses the Mula Cooperative. However, we have set two goals for this fundraising campaign, in stages:

  1. Requested quote for partial roof repair: €11,844.90 (value including VAT)
  2. Requested quote for full roof repair: €20,823.90 (value including VAT)

We will prioritize carrying out the comprehensive intervention, in order to reduce costs and minimize the time of interruption of activities.
