Neve Insular collective based in Cabo Verde has been growing relations through cotton since 2018. The Collective will be in XTANT 2024, Spain exhibiting “0.0003% - Cotton and Resistance”. Your support will enable the growth of this utopia!

Neve Insular (NI) is an independent artistic collective based in São Vicente, Cape Verde . Starting in 2018, we celebrated 5 years of cotton cultivation carrying out of various activities linked to agroecology, education and the expanded field of design and arts.

After the first international exhibition, in 2023, at the Cultural Center Cabo Verde, Lisbon, Portugal, named 'Best of' African and Afro-diasporic visual arts in Portugal in 2023” ( Bantumen ) we will be present in Mallorca for the presentation of:

The collective is gathering the conditions for the exhibition touring at XTANT-Roots 2024, Spain . With it we intend to broaden the international impact of the work we carry out with the community, specifically in the art and design sector; and, in addition, to make Cape Verde's cultural history known through a contemporary and artistic approach.

About the author

Neve Insular (NI) is an independent project , authored by artist and i2ADS researcher, Rita Rainho, and fashion designer Vanessa Monteiro. In 2018 , we accepted the challenge launched by the National Center for Art, Crafts and Design - CNAD to develop a design project that had the patterns of traditional Cape Verdean cloth as a creative basis. In this sense, we created a partnership with the Associação Agropecuária do Calhau e Madeiral, located on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde and in 2019 we started planting cotton in an area of approximately 300m2, expanding it to 800m2 in 2021. In addition to sowing the textile fiber we created a consortium of species avoiding monoculture planting. Since its inception, NI has promoted activities in the areas of agroecology, artistic education and art&design, integrating workshops for the Cotton Cycle, annual artistic residencies, collective harvests, among others.
