NAAAS is home to approximately 200 dogs who have been abandoned or neglected, many of them elderly and suffering from chronic health problems. One of the biggest challenges is the difficulty in paying for veterinary expenses, which can be quite expensive.
Abandoned or neglected dogs are more likely to have health problems. Many arrive at NAAAS sick, others become ill themselves, but whenever an animal is in distress, we don't hesitate and immediately try to minimize their suffering. Although we know we'll struggle to pay the bill, the animal's health is our priority. Since NAAAS houses older dogs, it's natural that many of them experience age-related illnesses.
Not all of the cases we present here had a happy ending, but the bills remained unpaid. We lost Serrana, but Balta started walking again. Tomás's disease is under control, as are Prince, Jack, and Lucky. Lucky has diabetes and went blind, so she requires constant monitoring and medication, just like Tomás.
Since there's no institutional support, we're forced to ask for help. We believe that with a little help from everyone, we'll be able to pay off our ever-growing bills. Only then will NAAAS be able to help more animals. Together, we'll create a better life for these furry friends, who deserve all the best in life!
