The Transformers Movement launched the “Street Academy”, a project whose main objective is to guarantee equal access to opportunities in the development and projection of the different talents of young people, despite their different starting points.
The Academy is materialized through the opening of a physical space in the city of Porto, the first place to accelerate talents of the Transformers Movement, which is scheduled to open in December.
The Transformers Movement has worked with more than 9,100 young people at risk of social exclusion, ensuring that 60% increased their leadership and creativity skills, 58% increased their feeling of social acceptance and 44.3% reduced their school retention rate. Now, he wants to take the leap and make sure that all these young people have a place where they can invest in what they really want to do.
«Created to be an open and safe place to create, experiment, fail and learn, the Rua Academia is a space that represents the completion of the movement's cycle of transformation, with the aim of ensuring that there is a place that is home for all young people who are part of Transformers, where they know that there is room for all talents – and to explore them -, and where they will always have a team focused on designing and building personalized learning plans, which amplifies the voices of these young people and forms our new generation of leaders».
The Academy is organized into three main areas: physical space, incubation and monitoring methodology . A space open to the community and the social innovation ecosystem, an annual incubation process for up to two projects in the area of education (school success/failure is the variable that most accelerates/slows down civic and social participation) is the giveback and guarantee of union of energies with those who can learn and promote their mission, and finally the monitoring methodology for young people who go through the entire process of the transformers movement.
Between 12 and 24 months, these young people will invest and accelerate their talents, having access to the best support and places to do so. Everyone can contribute by becoming founding members of the Academy.
