Support for litters of kittens collected by Patinhas sem Lar

This year there have been huge cases of panleukopenia, an extremely deadly virus for kittens. Several litters with serious eye damage have also arrived. Friends, we ask for your help. Thanks!

Associação Patinhas sem Lar, headquartered in Espinho, was created 8 years ago. We have a dog shelter with a capacity to house 110 dogs, and a cattery with a capacity for 80 cats. All animals are properly vaccinated, dewormed and neutered if they are more than 6 months old. In addition to the funds spent to keep the animals housed in the best sanitary conditions, there are also high costs with animals collected from the street in need of urgent veterinary care: animals run over with bone fractures, animals with parasitic and other diseases, litters of dogs and cats newborns to abandonment. Abandonment of animals worsened during the pandemic period. From January to June of this year, we collected 170 dogs and 163 cats, many of them in need of veterinary care, which escalated our debts at the veterinary clinics. We currently have 7000 euros in debt at the Santa Marinha Veterinary Hospital, and requests for help are daily. We created this campaign with the aim of raising 2500 euros to pay off part of the debt related to the treatment of the countless litters that arrive daily. About the author

My name is Ana Paula Castro, I'm 55 years old, I'm a doctor with a specialty in Clinical Pathology, and visiting professor of Medical Microbiology at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) in Porto.

My passion for animals led me to create Associação Patinhas sem Lar, 8 years ago, in Espinho, in collaboration with other people, who like me, are sensitive to the animal cause. At the time, the purpose of creating the association was to take care of 70 dogs that were abandoned in an isolated area in Paramos, Espinho. Since then, we have collected and given for adoption more than 2000 dogs and cats. Our aim is that the collected animals are housed for as little time as possible. After basic veterinary care that includes deworming, vaccination and sterilization, they are disseminated on various platforms to promote responsible adoption of them. The motivation for this project is to make the care we provide viable, by liquidating part of the veterinary debts that we assume.

Budget and due dates

The project is to implement immediately, ending August 13th. The funds raised will be, in full, used to settle part of the debt of 7000 euros, at the Santa Marinha Veterinary Hospital
