We are two portuguese volunteers with the dream of making happy the children of a neighborhood in wich more than half of the families live with 1€ a day. All the donations and money raised will be used to acquire necessary goods (food, clothes, school material, medicines, etc) for this community.
We are two Portuguese volunteers living in the Cidade da Praia, Cape Verde and developing the solidarity project "1 Pencil for Cape Verde". It was through the AIESEC organization that we became aware of this opportunity to work on a social and humanitarian project that fills our hearts every day. This organization acts as a platform that seeks to empower all young people in order to empower and expand youth leadership through international practices and experiences.
Thus, the "1 Pencil for Cape Verde" project aims to implement a campaign awareness to raise essential goods such as food, school materials, clothing, medicines or personal hygiene items that will be delivered and distributed by the poorest people in the community of Várzea, in the Cidade da Praia. To this end, we aim to help the Black Panthers Youth Association, a non-profit organization based in this community, in its mission to assist the population of this neighborhood, in which a large part of the people do not have any financial conditions to acquire the assets of first necessity. Thus, our humble collaboration is based on the creation of this initiative, its dissemination to the world and the collection of donations that allow the inhabitants of the Várzea to improve their living conditions. We intend to link the "1 Pencil for Cape Verde" project during our stay in the community, which will be until September 2017, with the objective of finding means to acquire these goods. However we want this to be a continuous and self-sustaining process in the future, so we need all possible support to help AJBP help those who need it the most.
Thus, our target audience in this project encompasses all the children, young people, adults and elderly people of this community, who go through great difficulties in their daily lives. However, because we believe that education is the most powerful weapon to change the world, we focus our greatest attention on helping the poor and disadvantaged children who attend the "Mini Black" nursery. This school counts with the daily maintenance and effort of the AJBP itself that needs external support to get food and school supplies for these children in this new school year. This school space is a unique project of the AJBP, which aims to create opportunities for access to education for the children and young people of Várzea, who depend on this association for education and food, which they often lack at home.
We ask for your participation and contribution through a small gesture to help a great cause of solidarity!
