Angariação de fundos pela Associação Finis Terrae, para financiar uma ação legal contra o Estado Português. Fundraising by the Finis Terrae Association to finance a legal action we intend to take against the Portuguese State.
A Finis Terrae é uma Associação sem fins lucrativos (Pessoa Colectiva registada com o nº 518670236), para a defesa do Parque Natural Sintra-Cascais. Temos lutado, tanto a nível institucional como no terreno - em confrontos directos com os madeireiros, em acções de mobilização da população local e em piquetes para defesa de árvores ameaçadas de corte, por privados e por organismos públicos - contra a rápida urbanização deste território, que é também Paisagem Cultural Património da Humanidade (protegido pela UNESCO) e, nalgumas áreas, parte da Rede Natura 2000.
Toda esta acção, mesmo com ampla cobertura mediática, tem-se revelado insuficiente para travar o processo de destruição do PNSC. Todas as instituições que têm por missão gerir e defender esta área protegida (as câmaras municipais de Sintra e Cascais, o ICNF e a empresa pública Parques de Sintra Monte da Lua, entre outras) parecem agir de acordo com uma orientação política não assumida para extinguir o Parque Natural e urbanizar o seu território.
Neste contexto, não resta à Finis Terrae senão empreender acção legal contra o estado português. Dado que os tribunais portugueses desvalorizam o crime ambiental (temos uma queixa pendente no Tribunal de Sintra há ano e meio sem qualquer movimento processual) e que a extinção do Parque Natural Sintra-Cascais configura um dano ambiental e patrimonial irreversível e gravemente lesivo do interesse de todos nós, vamos apresentar queixa no Tribunal Europeu contra o estado português por graves e repetidas violações da Rede Natura 2000, que é de âmbito europeu e que abrange uma parte significativa do território do PNSC.
Não contando a Finis Terrae com quaisquer receitas que não sejam as quotizações e um ou outro donativo ocasional, não dispõe de meios para fazer face aos encargos associados à formulação e apresentação desta queixa. E é por isso que pedimos a ajuda dos nossos concidadãos para financiar esta acção legal que visa defender o nosso património comum. Contribua com o que puder, da mesma forma que nós faremos tudo o que pudermos para salvar o que ainda resta do Parque Natural Sintra-Cascais. Muito obrigado.
Finis Terrae is a non-profit association (registered legal entity number 518670236) dedicated to the defense of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. We have fought, both institutionally and on the ground – in direct confrontations with loggers, in actions to mobilize the local population, and in pickets to defend trees threatened with being cut down by private individuals and public bodies – against the rapid urbanization of this territory, which is also a World Heritage Cultural Landscape (protected by UNESCO) and, in some areas, part of the Natura 2000 Network.
All this action, even with extensive media coverage, has proven insufficient to halt the destruction of the PNSC. All the institutions whose mission is to manage and defend this protected area (the municipal councils of Sintra and Cascais, the ICNF, and the public company Parques de Sintra Monte da Lua, among others) seem to act according to an unspoken political orientation to extinguish the Natural Park and urbanize its territory.
In this context, Finis Terrae has no option but to take legal action against the Portuguese state. Given that the Portuguese courts downplay environmental crime (we have a complaint pending in the Sintra Court for a year and a half without any procedural movement) and that the extinction of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park constitutes irreversible environmental and patrimonial damage that seriously harms the interests of all of us, we will file a complaint with the European Court against the Portuguese state for serious and repeated violations of the Natura 2000 Network, which is European in scope and covers a significant part of the PNSC territory.
Finis Terrae does not count with any income other than membership fees, we will do everything we can to save what remains of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, just as we will do everything we can. Thank you very much.
