Quintinha Abc – Association for Animal Protection needs your contribution in remodeling its current cattery.
Together we can provide more and better help.
Quintinha Abc – Association for Animal Protection has been upholding its activities in the area of Palmela since 2015, having currently about 100 resident cats and dogs.
Has it happens with many non-profit organizations, Quintinha Abc relies entirely on the work of a group of dedicated volunteers in order to fulfill its daily tasks, provide a solution to the problem of abandoned animals and guarantee their well-being.
The current cattery is no more than an old re-used farmhouse. It is a precarious space that cannot provide sufficient comfort and hygiene to the cats it houses. The degradation of the walls and floors does not permit an effective cleaning of the space, which can boost the appearance of infectious diseases, nor is it insulated, with the animals being exposed to the same temperatures that occur on the exterior, either in Winter or Summer. The current animal infirmary house is also set on a temporary structure that does not provide the necessary conditions to a successful recovery. At this infirmary there is no natural light and animals are subjected to loud noises, constant entering and leaving of volunteers and the presence of other animals – which is highly stressful to a recovering animal.
Volunteers guarantee the daily cleaning of the cattery, which includes the cleaning of beds, bowls, blankets and litter boxes. However, there isn’t much more they can do without a significant financial investment in the construction of a new facility, which is not currently within the grasp of Quintinha Abc. The association is powerless when it comes to changing the current facilities and has no money available for a true reconstruction of its space.
It is urgent to intervene, as a community, in order to provide adequate facilities and to shelter these special and sensitive animals.
The time has come to act and provide for the resolution of this community problem. It is crucial to remodel the current facilities and build a true cattery and infirmary.
Your support is fundamental in order to accomplish this goal.
About the author
Quintinha Abc – Association for Animal Protection was founded in May 2015 by Ana Elísia Monteiro and family, with Ana remaining as the current President of the Association. It is only due to the support of the team of 15 young volunteers and her love for all animals that she has found the strength to not give up in the face of adversity and lack of funding.
Quintinha Abc is a shelter for cats, dogs and other species of farm animals such as chickens, ducks, guinea pigs and sheep. This Association provides the rescue and re-insertion into the community of animals that are abandoned or that are retrieved from abusive situations, therefore contributing to the reduction of wandering animals, trough adequate population control measures and assuring the improvement of their quality of life.
In spite of still being a very young Association, Quintinha Abc has rescued, during 2017, 126 animals and provided new homes for 91 cats and dogs. These animals have finally found their deserved happiness in their new and definitive homes and families.
Quintinha Abc is determined to grow and improve so it may help more animals, in a better way. In the future, this Association hopes to be able to respond to the daily calls for help it receives.
The construction of the new cattery is an essential step in this process.
Budget and due dates
For a complete remodeling of the two farmhouses and their conversion into cattery and infirmary, we have talked to many construction companies and requested several budgets.
Construction workers visited our shelter, not only for the purpose of understanding the needs of the space but also to realize which solutions would be the most suitable.
The budget chosen was globally the lowest and more suitable. To this budget, we are obliged to add the necessary taxes for the accomplishment of this campaign. Overall, the value we need to gather is 3950.00€. This value includes construction materials and all qualified work required to perform the following tasks: removal of coverage and application of new coverage, repair of internal plasters, exteriors, supply and assembly of aluminium windows and doors, supply and settlement of mosaic and tile, execution of ante-chambers and lodgings and execution of interior and exterior painting.
Volunteers will collaborate in the rehousing of the animals during the construction.
The maximum deadline for the fundraising of 3950.00€ is the end of May.
The moment has arrived. It is now or never.
Our hope is in you.
