GAStagus is a youth non-profit NGO based in the Instituto Superior Tecnico in Taguspark campus (Portugal) that develops projects in education and development cooperation in Africa and Brazil.
The mission of GASTagus is alert and encourage young people to discover and promote human dignity through volunteer activities in Portugal, Brazil and Africa.
GASTagus does not create any costs to the partners who receive us on the ground, nor to the volunteers who leave on mission. A volunteer, to go on a mission, must, through his team work with the other volunteers, fund his trip. This is also a form of preparation.
Currently, GASTagus is present in five countries:
- Cape Verde;
- Sao Tome and Principe.
Since 2009, have been sent more than 400 volunteers trained during the "A Caminhada" (The Way) .
Each team is composed of a leader who has been present on the ground and who facilitates contact with the partner. The rest of the team is composed of volunteers who will have the first project experience.
GASTagus sends volunteers from the most diverse fields of training, since medicine, engineering, economics, management and psychology to the international mission. In this way each volunteer adds value to the community where he is inserted in mission.
About the author
GASTagus is a non-profit and non-governmental development organization, with headquartered at the Instituto Superior Técnico on the Taguspark campus in Oeiras, and develops projects in the area of education and development's cooperation.
At GASTagus, we believe that in order to face these challenges, we need to have young people:
- A) with more knowledge and ability to reflect on society, locally and globally;
- B) better able to dialogue and respect each other, understanding their individuality;
- C) more socially involved and able to work actively and in a team.
To this end, we provide to our volunteers a training and preparation course during ten months, and during the month of August, they are sent for short-term projects (1 month) to strengthen projects of GASTagus partners in the field.
GASTagus is an organization based on volunteer work. All of our projects are carried out by young people who are going through a process of intense preparation, which we call a "A Caminhada" (The Way).
Our values are reflected in four dimensions, which we call "Pilares" (Pillars). These guide in a transversal way the activities developed in the association and should be transparent to the daily life of all members.
- Teamwork and Friendship,
- Waiver and Simplicity,
- Delivery and Service,
- Continuity and Sustainability.
