Help us in collecting the financial support to accomplish the event PortugalSLAM! in a sustainable way!
PortugalSLAM! is a platform for the spoken word and performance. It's been created by the current organizations of Poetry Slam in Portugal – namely in Amadora, Angra do Heroísmo, Almada, Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Lisboa, Matosinhos, Ponta Delgada, Porto and Sines.
In June 2014 the PortugalSLAM! event will gather at LX Factory, in Lisbon the representative poets of all the local events in a National Final of Poetry Slam. The winner will represent Portugal internationally, thus bringing value to Portuguese language and the artists that work in this country. Apart from the National Final of Poetry Slam, the PortugalSLAM! event will also host workshops, outdoors interventions, residences, exhibitions, video showcases, performances with national and international guests.
Poetry Slam is a practice starting 1984 in Chicago, which is nowadays spread all around the world through a growing global community of poets. Its common format is based on simple rules: the poems have to be original, they have to be performed without sound devices or costumes and are judged by a jury chosen from the audience using scores between 0 and 10. After a three minutes time limit, the poet's scores are decreased proportionally to the excess in time.
We propose an event where the local winners can compete on a national level and have a chance to show their work at the international poetry slam events, such as the European Final of Poetry Slam (Sweden) and the World Cup of Slam (France).
PortugalSLAM! 2014 arises with the intention of highlighting new urban poets, an inspiring experience of team work where everyone contributes with knowledge, feelings and talent to this flourishing community.
And because "the Poetry Slam is community", this crowdfunding campaign serves to fulfill this premise from the founder of this movement - Mark Smith - and prove that our words together, make the dream possible!
The book 3, 2, 1 SLAM!
The edition of a book – a collection of poems of 14 authors that marked the first three years of Poetry Slam in Portugal – is also a goal of the event. The book will not be an anthology, rather a short zoom on this marginal poetry current.
