The project "Cem Traças" (One Hundred Moths) is a scientific illustration project based on moths (nocturnal buterflies), from the insect collection of the National Museum of Natural History and Science. The authors developed this project under a Master in Drawing thesis from the School of Fine Arts. The book "One Hundred Moths" is a catalog containing all the illustrations done.
This project is based on a series of illustrations of moths, developed from specimens from the insect collection of the National Museum of Natural History and Science, as part of the Master Degree in Drawing from the School of Fine Arts. A catalog will be produced, along with other promotional objects (such as postcards, t-shirts, etc). The main objective of this project is to promote the insect collection, the importance of scientific collections and the importance of scientific illustration as a means of visual communication.
In the 100 illustrations, are represented 16 Families of moths. The illustrations are the centerpiece of the catalog, and each page includes a map indicating the place of sampling and scale of each specimen. The illustrations are also followed by the catalog number for each specimen that was used as the base for each illustration.
Duas páginas do catálogo.
The text in the book will be presented in both Portuguese and English.
