Commemorative book, limited edition to 250 copies, all numbered and signed by the author, to celebrate the 25 years of John Gallo's career. It will not be printed again - only 250 copies will be produced, in English and Portuguese.

John Gallo celebrates 25 years dedicated to photography. Gallo is one of the most awarded Portuguese photographers ever, having been distinguished by the Royal Photographic Society and by the British newspaper The Guardian, among others. The President of the Republic, Professor Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, recognized, on two separate occasions, the importance of the photographic work of John Gallo.

To celebrate 25 years of his career (Gallo started photographing in Porto in 1997), a retrospective work of the photographic work of John Gallo, from 1997 to 2020, will be published, containing several unpublished photographs, as well as excerpts from awarded and internationally published essays.

O Rei dos Carrinhos de Choque, Portugal 2018

In a limited edition of 250 copies, all numbered, signed and with an exclusive handwritten dedication by John Gallo for each of the copies, this book will not be printed or reissued again, constituting a unique piece for collectors and lovers of photography.

In closed format (30X20 centimeters, at the bottom), 120 pages in heavyweight matte coated paper, hardcover with dust jacket with flaps in coated paper, line-stitched and glued to the cover, this book will be, in itself, a unique work , an invaluable collectible, timeless and elegant in design.

The preface will be written by António Homem Cardoso, a great friend of John Gallo and perhaps the most famous, brilliant and accomplished Portuguese photographer of all times. A passionate text.

The crowdfunding campaign is designed to fund 50% of the overall costs associated with producing, designing, printing and distributing the book commemorating John Gallo's 25th year as a photographer. The remaining 50% will be supported by other means and by the author himself.

About the author

John Gallo is a socio-documentary photographer, known for developing photographic projects that seek to foster reflection in contemporary society on environmental, social and economic issues that are crucial for the planet's sustainable development.

John relies on photography as a starting point for creating comprehensive projects that involve the community, in the context of raising awareness of the need to change mindsets. “Floresta Negra” and “Inferno” stand out, both on the theme of forest fires in Portugal and “Piles of Trash” which portrays the way in which western society looks at the most needy citizens.

In 2015, he was the winner of the Joan Wakelin Award, awarded by The Guardian newspaper and The Royal Photographic Society and, in 2016, his photographic series “Pilgrims – Walking to Fatima” was considered one of the best published this year by Público newspaper.

West London Tales - The Best Show in Town, Reino Unido 2016

John has published five photography books: “Carris de Ferro”, “The Last of the Tile Makers”, “Floresta Negra”, “Os Lugares do Azeite Transmontano” and “Inferno”. John is currently working on three more books: Invisible, Excertos do Quotidiano na Cidade Jardim e Portugal 70 Anos Depois.

John develops his work for very special clients, often with a strong connection to the cultural sector and the public sector, and he is currently producing several essays and documentary films.

In 2020, the documentary film "Feira de São Mateus - A feirar há 625 anos" was distinguished by an international jury as the best documentary in the Art, Music and Culture category, at the Art&Tur International Tourism Film Festival.

John Gallo's images have been presented, exhibited and published around the world, in prominent locations and media.
