EGEU, an independent cultural space in Lisbon, needs to raise funds to finance the next cycle of exhibitions. Being an open project, EGEU is made of everyone who wants to be a part of it. Help us keep it up!

EGEU, an independent cultural space in Lisbon, needs to raise funds to finance the next cycle of exhibitions (2020/2021). Having worked, on the last year, on a self-funding basis and through loans, EGEU is now looking to start its second year of activity with greater autonomy. For this reason, while we wait for institutional financial support, we resort to crowdfunding as a means to prevent a break in the project and the loss of our space, at Rua do Funchal, nº1A, in Arroios.

With this contribution, we will be able to offer new opportunities to the young artists we seek to support. In fact, we intend to dedicate ourselves in a greater extent to the discussion and materialization of artistic projects, thus increasing the diversity of our program and helping EGEU to establish itself in the cultural scene of Lisbon.

About the author

EGEU is a non-profit independent cultural space in Lisbon, running since September 2019, which seeks to lay grounds for new ideas, concerns and discussion through an active and multidisciplinary program. In order to exhibit emerging artists and support cultural workers, EGEU sets itself as a space that integrates ideas, motivated by the need to build a platform for constructive freedom, in which economic utility does not define the scope of action. Always open to new proposals, EGEU held several exhibitions, artistic residencies, performances and discussions in the last year, thus inscribing an alternative space to the dominant artistic circuit in the cultural fabric of the city.

Budget and due dates

The collective of founders of EGEU takes on every aspect of the project in a collaborative way: management, production, programming, curatorship and communication. As proven during the previous season, we gather the necessary means to maintain the project, as long as we benefit from financial support, in addition to personal funds.

In fact, holding exhibitions and artistic residencies implies a recurring maintenance of the space and a cost in promotional and tecnhical materials as well as catering. Thus, in the last year we have resorted to basic technical means, making it difficult to carry out projects that depended on more elaborate assemblies or sophisticated materials. In addition, given the real estate prices in Lisbon, it is difficult to assure the sustainability of EGEU.

The funds raised in this campaign are therefore intended to cover costs of production, technical material, rent and space conservation, over the next quarter of EGEU's activity, October to December 2020.

Among our next projects is an editorial project called Alcazar, which aims to combine a documental, artistic and written dimension in a collective and transdisciplinary literary work. The project started in September 2020 and will be developed over a year and a half, with EGEU being responsible for its edition, printing and distribution.
