“Dia Aberto às Artes” (DAA) - “Open Arts Day” Project description:
The Open Arts Day (DAA) is a sporadic cultural event, initially organized by an informal group, that started in 2011 and has been growing since then. In 2018 it became a cultural association.
This initiative is intrinsically connected to the space where it has been developed and acts essentially as an artists’ incubator with a prespective of encounter and expansion.
DAA is an anual envent, that occurs during one day, beginning in the morning and continuing into the night, with free entry to the public.
Right now, we’re working onthe production of the 6th edition, programmed for the 18th of May 2019 from 11:00 to 24:00, in Margarida’s Place.
DAA is a multidisciplinar event that has a diverse programme congregating in the same space, different stalls (local craft, author pieces, painting, sculpture, etc.), workshops, music, performances, exposições, street food and more.

With a very diverse sorrounding puclic, from rural population to surf lovers, we aim to have a meeting of different artistic interests.
The event covers and invites a wide range of ages, from 5 to 80 years old, from the public to the participating artists, we’re looking to foster a connection between people of different genarations, offering activities aimed at families, students, artists, art lovers and non erudite public.
The sharing of knowledge is promoted through workshops and demonstrations where popular and contemporary knowledge is transmited. In this space of fusion, designers are mixed with local craft people in diverse shows.
Each edition of theis project has a unique and varied programme where we always try to include local artists and artists from other parts of the country, making this event a place of inter and multidisciplinary encounters with a large esthetic scope and referencial spectrum.
The DAA already has 5 editions, takes place in the area of Paço d’Ilhas, in an inviting, historic, inspiring and artistic space.
The main objectives of this initiacive are to:
- Provide a space of experimentation for non-profit associations;
- Provide a space for meeting and sharing between emerging artists and local artists;
- Provide a space of inspiration and experimentation for new artists;
- Strengthen the cultural growth of the area;
- Create and develop new audiences;

About the promotor:
A3 is a nonprofit association for popular education created in 2018, which aims to promote and disseminate knowledge and practices in the field of arts. Through a series of activities, it creates a meeting point between crafts and contemporary art, always with a big focus on interdisciplinarity – visual arts, design, multimedia, performing arts and entertainment. A3 has as its main objective to stimulate and bring culture and art to rural and isolated areas, thus seeking the decentralization of knowledge.
Reflecting on the foundation of an arts incubator, we embrace the work artists and use it as a medium in the production of cultural events.
The A3, creates a space for the development of new audiences, promotion of artists and knowledge. For this we have as main activities the organization of artistic residences, classes, workshops and exhibitions, also proposing the realization of crafts and author pieces fairs, concerts and performances.

Budget and due dates
This project sarted in 2011 in a volunteer based manner by an informal group of friends and artists. Due to the growth and expansion of this projet, we can no longer count on donations only coming from this day and so we feel the need to gather funds to reward the artists for their work as well as to guarantee the conditions and infrastructures to host and produce this event.
This support is key to producing the event in the parameters and conditions that we are presenting. We believe that it has the potential to grow even more that that is why we need your help.
The funds raised will be for:
- 2000€ for all the production of the event, logistics and administration.
- 400€ for the light and sound technicians that will be present at the event.
- 3065€ for the artistic team (all the registered and invited artists for our many artistic areas).
- 800€ for the renting of the space (with the necessary conditions for the project: Margarida’s Place and Casa do Paço d’Ilhas, both in Ericeira)
- 240€ towards food for both the main team and the artistic team present on the day.
- 850€ for renting technical material (light and sound equipment for the event)
- 500€ for event’s the visual arts competition (because we want above all to suport the work ok artists. This sum is intended for 3 prizes of incentive)
- 180€ for renting portable WC’s (in keeping with the size of the event)
