Help Ricardo to walk, talk and eat again

The goal is to raise funds to gain access to therapies intensively at the Instituto Luso-Cubano de Neurologia where I believe I will eat, walk and talk again 💫 Alone I am unable but with you I know I will make it 💪🏻

I come, through this platform, to expose the situation that my 26-year-old son Ricardo Bento is in and create a fundraiser for his recovery treatments, during the next 6 months.

On June 22, 2017 my son, aged 21, had a serious car accident in Setúbal, Portugal. Which resulted in severe traumatic brain injury.

It's been 5 years and my son is stuck in a wheelchair. With a disability of 91%, there is no mobility in the upper or lower limbs, the left arm trembles a lot, has (ATAXIA), cannot express correctly in speech, has (DYSPHAGIA), does not write and has no body balance, the that prevents you from being able to walk alone. It also needs to be hydrated and medicated through a tube placed in the stomach (the PEGUE).

To be noticeable some evolution in recovery and/or autonomy, my son needs specific and paid therapies, such as physiotherapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, neurology and psychologist. Something unattainable at this moment due to the values that these therapies entail.

We therefore earnestly request the amount of €15,000 that will be spent over the next 6 months of treatments at the Instituto Luso Cubano de Neurologia in Lisbon, Portugal. So that he, a young man with his whole life ahead of him, can have a better quality of life, with dignity, being able to walk, eat and speak normally again.

About the author

Hello everyone, as you can see in the video, my name is Clarisse Francisco, Ricardo's mother, I am a single mother and our household is just the two of us, with the father absent from the country. My son needs 24-hour follow-up to perform basic tasks, such as eating, expressing himself, cleaning himself and moving Ricardo from his wheelchair, so I am his caregiver. Not being able to have any professional activity, being dependent on the low subsidy that the Portuguese state has granted us. I thank you all for your solidarity.

Budget and due dates

Right after raising the mentioned amount, our goal is to pay during the following 6 months a medical reassessment and treatments, including an ambulance ride, at the Luso Cubana de Neurologia Clinic in Lisbon, where Ricardo will practice the necessary therapies to recover. (speech therapy, occupational therapy and neurological physiotherapy) 4 hours a day, 3 times a week.
