Há Baixa was created by a group of students from the University of Coimbra whose motto is "helpful practice" developing work on Baixa of Coimbra.
This project is based on volunteer students who want to build, help and learn, establishing a very direct relationship with the practice of architecture, with the subject, technicians and former masters, and above all with the community. Each project is developed, from the beginning, by the students and all phases of the work are carefully studied so that the construction work is carried out according to various workshops on all types of material to be handled, guided by professionals specialized in each area concerned.
Há Baixa is then an event held in the city of Coimbra with a desire to relate people, ages and mentalities, always following the motto: "helpful practice".

About the author
Há Baixa started in 2015 and is developed by a group of students of architecture of the University of Coimbra whose motto is “helpful practice”. The premises of this project are based on four fundamental points:
- Practice as a complement to academic studies;
- Dynamic relations between students and locals;
- Networking;
- The city as a case study.
Trying to fill the gap between the academic studies of the university and the reality of the professional practice, we created this summer workshop for students focused on small architectural interventions and activities with the community. All of this is based on a really degraded area of Coimbra which is Baixa.
