PORTUGAL IN SOLIDARITY is a socially committed musical initiative launched by young people and uniting well-known musicians and budding music students - instrumentalists and soloists, choirs and orchestras – in a simultaneous ten-concert performance in solidarity with the plight of the refugees held in ten different venues, from the north to the south of continental Portugal, as well as in the Azores and Madeira. On the 25th of October, at 9 p.m., these concerts will generate proceeds that wi...

PORTUGAL IN SOLIDARITY  will have the participation of a large number of artists – from the fields of jazz, fado, pop and classical music -, who have been challenged to play with the youth orchestras of several music schools. These youth orchestras will be enriched with the participation of teachers from the schools. The artists involved have embraced this initiative absolutely selflessly, and many have made themselves available to play at locations distant from their residential areas.

The list of guest artists includes names like Sonia Tavares & Nuno Gonçalves (The Gift), Helder Moutinho, Filipe Melo & Marta Hugon, Nuno Feist & FF, António Chaínho, Mafalda Veiga, Miguel Gameiro, António Victorino d'Almeida, Sérgio Carolino, Júlio Resende, Viviane, Pedro Meireles, Nelson Ferreira, Valentine Ala, Ricardo Parreira, Vania Fernandes, Tito Paris, António Eustace, Carlos Guilherme, Mísia, Maria João and Mário Laginha, Otto Pereira, Ricardo Ribeiro, Sofia Escobar, Luiz Caracol, Vicente Palma, Henk Van Twillert, Mário João Alves, Luisa Tender, Vitorino, Mafalda Arnauth, Zeca Medeiros, Rita Redshoes, Manuel João Vieira among others...

The concerts will be held at the following venues: Faro (Theatre of Figures), Elvas (Cinema), Lisbon (Aula Magna), Coimbra (Academic Theatre Gil Vicente), Covilhã (Municipal Theatre), Espinho (Auditorium - Music Academy), Lamego (Teatro Ribeiro Conceição), Bragança (Municipal Theatre), Funchal (Theatre Baltazar Dias) and Ponta Delgada (Portas do Mar).

These concerts will generate proceeds that will be donated in full to two Portuguese associations that support the refugees: the Portuguese Refugee Council (CPR) and the Platform in Support of the Refugees (PAR). But we need money to rent auditoriums and for the payment of other expenses (insurance, travel costs, accommodations and meals for the artists).

About the author

This project results from the efforts of a group of friends from the music world who, spurred on by the desire to make a difference, have set out to organize Music for a Cause.

Budget and due dates

None of the artists will receive money for their performances. Proceeds will be donated in full to two Portuguese associations in support of refugees: the Portuguese Refugee Council (CPR) and the Platform in Support of the Refugees (PAR). But we need money for expenses: rental payments for auditoriums, insurance, travel costs, accommodations and meals for the artists. We expect to spend about 7,000€ on these expenses. Deadline: November 9, 2015.
