BEMPOSTINHA 22 is an old grocery store transformed into a studio where ideas are created and made. We need help from the community. We need your HELP!

When you come to BEMPOSTINHA22 you immediately feel the aura of old Lisbon. In the archive of the city records, the space has been registered as a commercial house since the distant year of 1881.

The walls tell us the more than one hundred years of stories that happened here, from the grocery store of Mr. Agostinho and son, two generations selling olive oil, tea and fruit from the outskirts of Lisbon. Stories that still appear in the main arch of the space and on the walls whose original colors amaze and delight the people who pass by and enter here.

Bempostinha closed for ten years. It had not been to Rua da Bempostinha, in 2016, and this centenary space would already be remodeled for housing.

I fell in love with the charm of Bempostinha and reopened it as a cafe where concerts, exhibitions and many meetings took place.

In 2019, Bempostinha added another stratum of life to its long history and BEMPOSTINHA22 was born, a studio of creators and idea makers.

It has been the home of my Recreate by Forma brand where I produce pieces such as bags, wallets, pillows, carpets and jewelry made with advertising tarps and other recycled materials.

The Hardcore Fofo brand also decided to make BEMPOSTINHA22 their home and was the first to share the space with me. The most subversive embroidery in Portugal and its surroundings has been born here.

Recently, 2 more creators joined the family of space residents; Leather181 with original articles made of leather and FlyingTotem, the brand of the Turkish fairy that produces accessories inspired by nature and the cosmos.

We became a family and as a family we shared ideas and laughter, the good and bad times. And this is one of the bad times.

BEMPOSTINHA22 is our place of work and maintaining BEMPOSTINHA22 in these past months has been a challenge for which we have reached our limit.

We need help to cope with the next six months and the expenses of the space. These six months imply that we need 3,500 euros for rent, electricity, water and internet.

We want to stay here and keep BEMPOSTINHA22 alive. Like many others before us, we are happy here. We believe that 2021 will be a year of recovery, a year in which this life span that we have called the pandemic will end. We want to overcome this crisis and preserve this space where each fragment tells the story of a Lisbon that has been progressively converted to the plasticization of tourism.

Covid doesn't just kill people. This virus can also kill dreams.

I am an industrial designer, and I have always loved building and deconstructing materials, experimenting, reusing, rethinking objects. As I usually say, my dream is to be a carpenter. But it is not just "making" more objects, the world is overcrowded with "things", and each time you create there has to be a real reflection of the need for this new "thing". Design is more than "beautiful" and even more than "function" is a way of thinking, of being, of recreating with what we already have available.

Recreate by Form-A, I can say that it started, as a gross idea, in 2005, when I finished the course. Over the years, with professional and personal experiences, between healthy discussions between friends, the idea has matured. The project, over the past 10 years, has grown and crossed the barrier of just one hobby. And having as one of my principles to respect the history of spaces, people and even materials, this old grocery store today serves as an inspiration and willingness to do more to recreate the world around me, and it is with an enormous sense of privilege that I share this space with fantastic people with creative projects.

Budget and due dates

Value = € 3,500

We need to pay the expenses for NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, JANUARY, FEBRUARY, MARCH and APRIL regarding rent, water bills, electricity and internet.

There are months when the markets will be few and even with Christmas in between and some increase in sales we cannot trust that the amount will be obtained to pay the expenses.

We will not let our arms down and we will always be working because we have our personal expenses to pay.
