"The blackberries" aim to create a space for the community to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of growing plants / legumes in their own garden, as well as the care and preservation of Portuguese chicken breeds.
The proposal of the project “As Amoras” contemplates the creation of a vegetable garden that will need to be covered by a greenhouse in order to be able to carry out activities throughout the year, regardless of the season of the year; and acquisition of chicken coops for the breeding and preservation of Portuguese chicken breeds.
It emerges in line with the development of activities, the Social and Therapeutic Horticulture. Social and therapeutic horticulture includes the cultivation of various plants, outdoors or indoors, on the ground, in flower beds or pots, with ornamental plants, horticultural crops, aromatic and medicinal plants, edible flowers, small fruits, and may also include ornamental or fruit trees and shrubs. Sowing, planting, harvesting, driving, watering and harvesting a garden or garden garden are important elements, as are visits to green spaces and natural landscapes. They can be effective in the therapeutic and health promotion processes of the elderly, as plants contribute significantly to the well-being of demented elderly subjects through sensory stimulation and the development of positive emotions.Thus, the project has the following specific objectives:
- Growing vegetables in organic mode;
- Plant and exploit apple and plum orchard in organic mode;
- Protect Portuguese chicken breeds;
- Develop traditional kitchen-to-table experimentation workshops;
- Promote activities with seniors and juniors (intergenerational meetings around dynamic “farm things” that generate experiences of sharing feelings and knowledge across generations);
- Develop contact of users of various ages with the garden in various relationships (sowing, pruning, harvesting, cleaning) as a healing tool;
- Maximize social, cognitive, physical and psychological functions, improving the quality of life of users;
- Promote the fight against professional stress of our employees by holding participatory meetings in the garden activities;
- Recreate the rural environment of the region and make young people more aware of environmental education;
- Raise awareness of selective and targeted water from a waste prevention perspective
In order to be able to provide these fantastic moments for our community, we need your collaboration to get the funding we need to build the greenhouse and chicken houses.
